Morning,

I've been having issues with a plotter I've had for a few years.   Could I run through what I’ve done so far and see if you have any further advice please:

  • First problem was yellow printhead display with an X
  • Replaced yellow print head, same X remained
  • Following search on line about possible new printhead errors i purchased another yellow head with a much older date, same X remained
  • Also tried the firmware update suggested on the HP site, same error still.
  • Purged ink tubes and checked ribbon cables from carriage to PCB seems ok
  • Replaced the carriage,  same X error on yellow print head
  • Purged ink tubes again,  same X error on yellow print head

The printer won’t run the troubleshoot or printhead alignment without cancelling.

If I remove all heads and replace one at a time starting with the Yellow it doesn’t show any issues until the last head is installed,  the printer runs through a setup then returns to Replace Print Head.

If I go to the Log area on the display all print heads are ok, until I try to align or troubleshoot at which point the Yellow printhead says Faulty and gives a 0319..   Could I just be very unlucky and have had multiple faulty yellow heads?

Any advice would be great

I would replace the trailing cable first. If the problem continues, replace the carriage too.

make sure yellow ink is not empty to supply printhead. verify firmware is 5.04 under system info. a must for printheads of 2020 date code or newer. clean contacts on carriage really well. water 1st then windex , alcohol last resort. be sure contacts are dry before re-inserting. carriage board, carriage can be bad, flex cable (unlikely with out 11:11 or 11:12 error) be aware newest windows 10 can kill driver communication.

Hey,

Found this conversation through Designjetpartsfast website...

I am having the almost exact same issue, constant replace print head message even after brand new replacement.  Next steps will be to replace the old ink cartridges and figure out how to purge the lines.

Wondering if there was any resolution to your issue that might help lead me to the right direction?

Cheers,

-Evan

hey, all...I was able to get my 2500cp back up and running with a couple tricks provided by Susan at https://www.myolddesignjet.com. It had sat for several years, and she knew how to get things going again; didn't have to buy a single part. The last thing was printhead alignment error and she said to soak the cartridges in hot water for 15m, shake the water out until the ink ran, blot on paper towels, and voila, up and running!
