hey everyone, my good friend is attending Pratt this fall to get her masters in Graphic Design, and i was wondering if anyone had any good book recommendations for her?
what book do you wish you had read when first starting out in design? what book has changed how you look at design? what is the best reference book that you've ever used?
let me know! doesn't even have to be a design book!
thanks!

Hi,

There are two books that one of my professors at MCAD, (Wendy Jedlicka) wrote that introduces and explains sustainable design for graphic designers.

Since I do believe that is the future, your friend might really benefit from being up to date on new sustainable information for the graphic designer.

"Sustainable Graphic Design: Tools, Systems, and Strategies for the Innovative Print Designer"
and
"Packaging Sustainability: Tools, Systems and Strategies for Innovative Package Design"

The book I had my students use for my Graphic Design 1 class this past semester was "Graphic Design: the New Basics" - Ellen Lupton & Jennifer Cole Phillips

Late but still in.

It's intended to be for advertising folks, designers or copywriters, but I found it was insanely useful for the creative process in general, not to mention being fun to read:

"Hey Whipple, Squeeze This" by Luke Sullivan.
