Hi All,

I am struggling with menu systems for new DB development and what is industry standard.

What are you using for menus?

Did you create your own menu system?  Are you using DB menus?

I would love to see screen shots to get some idea of what people are doing?

Thanks,

Rick

Hi Rick,
I use db menus; but I suspect nowhere near enough of its overall features.

I do so because I always prefer to stay "within" a tool wherever possible and because it automatically handles group security for me. That is, only showing options for the group a user belongs to.

Happy to discuss more.

See attached jpg.

Cheers,

D

Rick:

Send me an email.  Our menus are completely outside DB, except for the forms and behind-form code of course.

Hi Bill,

I'm also interested in seeing how your menus are setup. Any chance you can share more info on the approach. Thanks.

PC,

Perhaps let us know what you are wanting from the menu system.

Current menus can be styled using css to look quite different to the the released styling.

If there is something special that you're after than perhaps it will make its way into the product or as a new sample in DBINET.DEMO.

HI Jon,

Currently we drive our front menu using a OFR. Management have asked if we could develop a drop down menu. Basically a menu at the top of the form menu of the opening form that invokes a sub menu. Similar to the DesignBais home page when you click on the Resources option.

Our web site is built with our Responsive Design tools so that it will run on any device. We have applied our own styling to the bootstrap backbone to personalize the look. All features used are available to all DesignBais developers.

We have several "how to" blogs on the web site - one to build a menu but we probably need one on how to style a Responsive Design page and hence, menu elements.

Responsive Design works well for client facing forms but classic DesignBais is better for the more complex business tools where standard sized monitors are the norm.

I'll assume that you want to improve your classic mode application and that you are using DesignBais v8.

It is just a case of styling and in one of our v8 releases we made the dbaistmContainer and dbaistmMenu styles available. One of our upgrade utilities let's you Extract SYS File Records to your own style name - you can't leave "dbais" in the name as we stop you from potentially breaking our tools.

There are some hints in the dbaistmMenu style to help you out.

We helped Rick style his menus to achieve the look in the attachments - I'm not sure whether he implemented them into his application. There are images in this sample but you can probably use Font Awesome icons as well (just another HTML element).

Copy the styles from DBISYSFORMS and give it a go - if you run into problems, mock up your desired look and we will make a 'how to' blog or a sample form to help all of our users.

We are planning to post a new 8.5.1.nnnn release this week.

https://designbais.com/?dbpage=dbweb-classicmenu  for a walk through - available from the blogs menu - let me know if more info needed.

8.5 release due at the end of the week / early next week - perhaps needed to suppress the default menu image easily.
