Position Summary

Since 2013, federal, state, and local government agencies have trusted Nava to solve highly scrutinized technology challenges and set the standard for human-centered digital services. Nava is looking for an experienced Designer / Researcher to help drive this mission forward.

You will work on cross-functional teams to drive the design and research efforts of our work with the government, for programs that affect millions of Americans. You’ll be involved in the design process from concept to implementation, championing user needs with everything from user research to prototyping to design systems. You’ll bring us closer to the people we ultimately serve, helping deliver high quality work that is simple, empathetic, and accessible.

This will require someone adept at strategic and holistic thinking who is able to identify overlaps between various ongoing research threads and give feedback to the broader team. This person should be able to build and form strong, collaborative relationships within Nava and our partner agency. They should also be comfortable and proactive within rapidly evolving, ambiguous situations, able to rapidly adapt to changing tactical circumstances and chart a course forward through uncertainty. They should effectively be able to move past barriers, identify key stakeholders, move fluidly between shaping product vision and execution, and solicit buy-in when necessary.

What you'll do

• Apply a human-centered design approach to challenges with a relentless focus on user needs.
• Propel understanding of users, by running quantitative and qualitative user research initiatives and sharing findings with internal and external collaborators.
• Collaborate with cross-functional Nava product teams and government staff to drive ideas from strategy to implementation, including planning and conducting research, creating user flows and service blueprints, designing products, and building design systems.
• Prioritize, plan and deliver roadmap-level design and research initiatives on projects.

Required skills

• At least five years of experience working as a designer working in product teams within a professional working environment
• Depth of experience in researching, designing, and implementing digital services
• An understanding of design systems, accessibility standards, and best practices in web and content design
• Equal parts systems thinker and advocate for usersRelentlessly curious mindset, never satisfied with easy answers
• Highly resourceful, reliable, and detail-oriented 
• Ability to think strategically around trade-offs and short term vs. long term benefits
• Ability to build and form strong relationships with the internal team and external partners
• An adaptive, empathetic, and positive mindset
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, technical and otherwise
• Ability to quickly pick up new knowledge and absorb ecosystem dynamics and complexities

Compensation Range: $119,00 - $151,050

Other requirements

●  Must have lived in the United States for at least three (3) of the past five (5) years.

●  An active green card or citizenship is required.

● Candidates who are offered a job with Nava must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.

● Offer of hire is contingent upon completion of a background check that includes a criminal record history review.

● Applicants selected for this position may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

Location

You can work in a hybrid work arrangement from one of Nava’s offices in NYC, DC, or San Francisco. We also have fully remote options if you reside in one of the following states:
