American UI/UX Designer (Medium to Senior-Level)

Paid/ Part-Time • Remote (US) • Start Immediately

NOTE: We especially welcome applicants from underrepresented American communities in tech (eg African American woman, since our initial audience will primarily be this demographic

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking a medium to senior level UI/UX designer who is passionate about social-economic and political justice and wants their work to have game-changer impact. Years of experience are a big plus, but most important are good design instincts and knowledge of the users that will achieve best user experience, and a drive to help build tools that support grassroots organizing and mobilizing for economic and political jusitce in the US.

This is a part-time paid cofounder role with a path to long term well paid employment if the project gains traction. If it does, it will strongly appeal to wealthy progressive donors, hence far higher pay. You'll work flexibly from anywhere in the US, on a team that is small, mission-driven, and moving fast. We hope you’ll realize this work could become the proudest achievement of your life.

About Our Organization and The Mission

We are a scrappy nonprofit startup with a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, working to build a next-generation digital platform for civic organizing, mobilizing, and mutual aid. Our founder has launched four mission-driven startups — including one that won national awards. He has raised nearly $2M across investigative documentaries and the startup ventures. Press clips from NYT, WAPO, LA Times, etc available re his early works.

Our platform will consist of three interconnected apps, the two most important being:

• AdoptAnOrganizer (AAO): A progressive web app that will have several powerful advantages over GoFundMe, to help aspiring organizers quickly meet their basic needs — housing, transportation, food, etc — so they can quit unfulfilling jobs and dedicate themselves full-time to their favorite causes. If successful, this will be key to building an army of 1000 organizers critical to such urgent needs as protecting the November elections

• MAMA (Mutual Aid for Mass Actions): A progressive web app that covers rent, mortgage, and health insurance for long-term strikers, enabling sustained nonviolent civic action able to shut down major pillars of power that support fascist regimes. This will be critical for Plan B: If the Nov. elections are stolen, our only option will be a Nat’l Nonviolent Strike & Uprising

Role & Responsibilities

Depending on your availability and skill level, your role will be one of the following:

• Option A — Full Design Lead: You own the UI/UX end-to-end, designing screens, flows, and assets for the MVP.

• Option B — AI Assist & Refine: We use Lovable.ai to generate the initial UI; your role is to review, correct, and elevate the output to a polished standard. Hence less hours.

Either way, you will collaborate directly with the founder and contribute to a product that could reach tens of thousands of users.

Tech Stack

Familiarity with any of the following is a plus — we don't expect expertise in all:

• Figma or similar prototyping/design tools

• Progressive Web App (PWA) design patterns

• Lovable.ai or other AI-assisted UI tools

• Basic familiarity with React or front-end component libraries

• You don’t need to do the frontend html &css coding

• ...and more:

Ask for the Full tech stack details when you apply

Duration

• Total engagement: 3–4 months, longer if willing and we can find more funding

• Month 1: Approximately 10–20 hours/week

• Months 2–4: Approximately 10 hours/week ( maybe fewer if using AI-assisted workflow)

Our MVP does not need to be highly scalable: we're targeting a few thousand initial users for AAO.

Compensation

This is a paid contract position with performance-based compensation:

• $4,000 – $7,000total, depending on scope of your design role (whether option A or B)

• Plus $2,000 – $3,000 bonus upon reaching 100 active users on the app

Strong potential for long-term part-time paid employment if the platform gains traction
