Over the last two years, we've been awakening our neighbours in Kiwaatule to a different future. 92% of landowners now express excitement to collectively steward 500+ acres of a now degrading urban wetland.

But between this excitement and actually committing to a flourishing future lies a gap—a trust gap that needs new cultural commons: stewarding processes, structures, and systems to evolve how humans relate with their place.

Our next steps this year involve engaging a harder ecosystem—one more resistant to change because of the privileges, power, and deeply ingrained beliefs it holds: the funding ecosystem.

And yet, something is cracking open. Across the field, funders are realising that: “the patterns behind how we try to solve these challenges look suspiciously like the mess that got us here.”

Just as we set out to understand what conditions enable landowners to Re-common land, we're now setting out to understand what conditions would enable funders to naturalise money—shifting it from a tool of extraction towards enriching life-relations in place.

We're looking for hashtag#Volunteer hashtag#Researchers to help us conduct listening conversations with funders and map the openings. If you or someone in your network cares about evolving finance, please take a look and share within your networks.
