🪪 Messaging Strategist / Copywriter (Volunteer Role for a Tech Justice Project) (Platform Justice )

📍 United States, Cambridge (Remote)

🕣 Internship, Volunteer

💵 Unpaid Volunteer

Volunteer Opportunity (December + January)

About Platform Justice

Platform Justice exists because people can feel when a platform harms them, even when they cannot explain why. Algorithms shift, listings disappear, payments stall, and support loops endlessly. The impact is real, but the record is not.

We collect these experiences, trace the patterns, and turn invisible digital harm into public evidence. Our mission is simple: no one should face a platform alone, and no harm should disappear into silence. We are building tools that help gig workers and digital workers document what they live through each day so their stories are finally seen.

What We Need

Our website is visually beautiful and technically strong, thanks to volunteers from this community. But we have not fully found our voice. We are looking for a Messaging Strategist / Copywriter who can help us express our mission with clarity, warmth, and emotional resonance. We want storytelling that is grounded and human, something in the spirit of accounts like earthlingsundone on insta, simple words that land.

Responsibilities

• Develop clear, compelling messaging for PlatformJustice.org

• Write homepage headline, sub-headline, and calls to action

• Create a simple explanation of “platform harm” for the public

• Support development of Platform Justice’s tone and voice

• Translate complex systems into language ordinary users can understand

Ideal Volunteer

(Note: This is an unpaid volunteer position for now. We are actively and relentlessly hunting for funding, but until then, we run on mission, caffeine, and the kindness of brilliant people like you. If that sounds like your kind of adventure, we would love to have you).

• Strong writer with experience in social impact, journalism, nonprofit comms, or brand storytelling

• Comfortable simplifying complex ideas without losing meaning

• Interested in digital justice, platform accountability, or human-centered narratives

• Appreciates clear, emotional, grounded language

Time Commitment

Flexible, but we are looking for someone reliable and communicative. The exact time needed will depend on your pace and process, and you can help us determine that. As a guideline, contributing 5–10 hours over December and January would make a meaningful difference.

If you love words, clarity, and justice, we would love to meet you.
