To the sustainable interaction design/design for sustainable behaviour/user-centred design for sustainability research community
---
Dear colleagues,
You receive this email because you are known to be active as an academic researcher within the area of sustainable interaction design, design for sustainable behaviour, user-centred design for sustainability, or similar. In fact, this is an attempt to reach the most prominent researchers in this field... even though we are sure the list of people is far from complete.
On behalf of the executive committee of the Ecodesign 2009 conference, to be organised in December 2009 in Sapporo, Japan, we would like to ask you to consider participation in this conference. We have the intention to organise one or more special sessions on human behavioral studies related to sustainable use.
It is entirely possible that you are not familiar with the biannual Ecodesign conference series, even though the conference is considered as one of the most important, if not the most important, conference within the sustainable product design and engineering research communities. To ensure maintaining, or increasing, a multidisciplinary research perspective for Ecodesign, the conference intends, this lustrum year, to devote special attention to the role of the human, as a user/consumer of products and services. Bringing together (for the first time?) the most prominent researchers in this field is therefore our aim.
We would like to point your attention to the preliminary call for papers at the conference website
http://www.mstc.or.jp/imf/ed/CFP.html. Please be aware that at this early stage of the conference organisation, there is still significant room for initiatives to be included in the conference program. This means that, following positive feedback from a majority of you, it is our intention to make this topic a prominent one on the conference, not only by organising technical sessions, but by including additional events as well.
In short: we would like you to consider participation at this conference by submitting an abstract (by the of April) followed by a full paper (by the end of September). In addition, we would appreciate at this stage to hear if you feel positive towards this initiative, and if you will consider to participate. Any ideas that would do justice to our intention are most welcome of course. As said, we feel it is important to bring a significant part of our somewhat dispersed research community together, and provide a platform for furthering research in this field -- perhaps even towards dedicated future events.
Sincerely,
also on behalf of my scientific committee colleagues Dan Lockton, Sergio Palleroni and Edward Elias, and our chair Prof. Jun Fujimoto,
Casper Boks
