Hi,

I was wondering if this project is still being developed in any way?
I've been using it for the last few months, and am saddened to see
bugs go unresolved in the issue sections (despite solutions already
provided in most cases).
Also, creating packages for mayor distributions is likely to increase
this project's popularity. I have sent an email to the project owner
with my concerns, but unfortunately my message has remained unanswered
so far.

I'm hoping the project owner can share some words on his plans for
this project. I've been playing with the source code just now in my
local svn repository, and wouldn't mind taking up an active part in
development.

With kind regards,

Alexander van der Mey

Hi,

I also believe that desigle deserves more attention than it was receiving. I think that the 2-pane PDF preview is even more productive than preview-latex (where by mouse clicking, you can open the original text and after editing, another click will just run the region in question through LaTeX and redisplay the new results).

As I rarely have access to a computer, my advice to Alexander van der Mey is that you should express how participants will communicate. The summary of desigle-ng can be something like the following :
********************************************************
Desigle-ng is a simple latex editor with a PDF preview pane.
<image>

Features:
a PDF preview pane
spell checking
syntax highlighting
auto-completion

Installation :
download it from the Downloads tab
.deb

Users can also :
write feature requests to the wiki
report bugs as issues and join our google group to receive answers (and announcements) also in their mailbox

Developers can :
browse and review online the source code and of course checkout by running :
<svn checkout command>

History :
This project is a fork of Desigle, established on the 20th of April 2009. The original project has a few old bugs that have remained unresolved for months now. My attempt at reaching the original author has remained unanswered so far. Presuming he either lost interest or does not have time for this project anymore, I decided to fork it. This fork is not ill intended in any way, I simply believe desigle deserves more attention than it was receiving.
Expect bug fixes & release packages for the mayor distributions soon, and hopefully new features later :)
********************************************************
My proposal is to write only on desigle-ng and not on both projects (desigle and desigle-ng).
With kind regards,
nickmeet

Hi Nikos,

Glad to read you have already noticed the desigle-ng project. I
figured the best way to keep desigle going was to fork it.
Thank you for your suggestions on communication channels, I will
implement these facilities into the -ng project asap.

With kind regards,

Alexander van der Mey

Hi Alex,

This is a very agile software development process (!) I'd like to follow, if I wasn't now in my compulsory military service
1.build communication channels
2.build a deb and an exe file so that more users report issues.
3.write tests (including UI tests)
4.start code refactoring, documentation
do{
    discuss and specify which features to add (note this is a light-weight editor and its weapon is the live PDF preview)
    write tests (including UI tests), implement
    do code refactoring, documentation
}while(someone==able && someone==available)

With kind regards,
Nikos
