Perusing the EPSM Group today spurred me to review and update my web article on comparing the cost to provide vitamin E to our horses.
I've always found sorting out the differences in the forms and types of vitamin E to be a bit challenging - so I spent most of the day going through some references to get it straight in my own head and, hopefully, provide some clarity for you.
Bottom line - if your horse has neuromuscular problems, consider investing in one of the water dispersible products. If you have a happy, healthy totally sound horse, you're likely fine with a less expensive form as long as it's fed with some fat to ensure absorption (unless it is in a softgel with an oil base).
If you have any doubts at all, have your vet check blood levels of vitamin E and selenium before supplementing - if the levels are good don't waste your money on the expensive "super E" products.
