Good afternoon!

As Des Moines Public Schools has a no-school day on Friday, October 23rd, we are inviting Americorps members and other volunteers to help out in school and community gardens that could use some support.

Please meet at the Forest Avenue Community Orchard (334 Forest Avenue, Des Moines, 50314) at 8:45 am, and we will begin working at 9:00 am. We will be raking grass, planting cover crop seeds, and filling in post holes. If we have extra volunteers, groups will go to other gardens nearby that have also asked for help with harvesting and clean-up (we can carpool!). If you are coming after 9:00 am, please call my cell phone at 319-360-3688 in case we have finished at Forest Avenue Orchard.

We will have volunteers helping in the following gardens:
Forest Avenue Orchard
McKinley Elementary
Findley Elementary
King Elementary
Cowles Elementary
Faith and Grace Gardens

Please RSVP to amy....@foodcorps.org or 319-360-3688 so we know how many volunteers to expect and can inform garden coordinators as well.

Thank you for your help and your service!

Sounds great Amy!

At the Faith & Grace Garden we will be digging sweet potatoes, planting garlic, and harvesting turnips, peas and kale.

Hope it does not rain!

Also we have volunteer hours on Saturday from 10:30-Noon.

Please call me at 745-9842 before you head our way so I can meet you.

Unfortunately, I work Friday at 9, and need to finish harvesting and putting my own garden to bed Saturday in between driving to Indianola for my daughters All State auditions. I'll keep my fingers crossed for no rain for all of us!

Thank you for coordinating all of this Amy!
