I want to play audio thru headphones I have connected to the audio output jack on my laptop. When I plug them in, Windows recognizes this and automatically switches from (internal) speakers to headphones (although by going to sound settings I could set the output back to speakers).
Don't worry - it's quick and painless! Just click below, and once you're logged in we'll bring you right back here and post your question. We'll remember what you've already typed in so you won't have to do it again.
Spotify gives me this error message in the subject line *only when I plug in headphones*: "Spotify can't play this right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it." When I use a USB headset I have no problem, and when I play songs through the laptop's speakers (which I never do) I have no problem. Setting the sound preference to "headphones" appears to cause the issue.
Another thing that comes to mind is that Windows 10 allows users to select audio in/output now - see this HowtoGeek article to learn more about it. You can set your headphones as the audio output for Spotify and it should stay that way.
It may happen that it's currently set to something else instead, making Spotify not recognise your desired output.
Thank you so much for answering. I also can't play Spotify on my laptop using headphones and I want to know why I can't use it. I am so happy I have found my answer over here. I want to buy laptops for studying and I have found so many ideas on this page. But I am confused about which one should I buy. Can you guys please help me in searching for the best laptops online?
I'm having this issue as well. All of my settings are as they should be, check what people have suggested on previous posts. Still nothing. It used to work if I started listening on my phone, then swapped to my laptop, but it won't let me do that anymore
Anyway, I am going to try updating Quicktime on the laptop in question (actually multiple laptops, I have another user complaining of the same issue on a different user/powerpoint/). Will have to wait til morning, night folks! Thanks!
So i use a desktop and it was never that hard but until i notice, laptop player are mostly having a hard time even in multiplayer so i decide to connect a wired mouse on your laptop that would be good but there are some controls that are not seen in some laptops so to be sure that desktop computers are much better to play on you should have a very good graphics card (e.g nvdia geforce, nvidia gtx, nvdia rtx) these make you pc less laggy and most importantly to better frames so the final results for better gaming is 1. Desktop
It really depends on the specs. If you got a dual core CPU that is hyperthreaded and has a high clock speed then the answer is probably no. But don't expect miracles, this is the minimum recommendation for Minecraft and this means vanilla Minecraft without any mods, and I'd say client without server, or server and no client but not both on the same machine.
As was mentioned before, it really depends on how fast the hardware is. Quad cores are recommended but this is for the ideal experience in the game, other people can get by just fine with hyperthreaded dual core i3's/i5's with high clock speeds in the range of over 3ghz, and with a render distance capped at 12 chunks it should work. I've got a laptop with specs like this and it doesn't struggle to run the game, the only downside with that is it'll drain the battery like a bucket full of water that had large holes at the bottom.
My laptop is playing up somehow. It won't let me watch any videos or movies on the internet or on my media player. All it does is go 'GREEN SCREEN' but the sound affects works. I tried 'right-clicking' then pressed 'settings' but i cant seem to find the box to un-tick the box next to ''Enable Hardware Acceleration' !
I'm having the same problems. It's a newer computer and I looked for the option to untick the enhanced options but it doesn't have that option. I also looked at the add-on for microsoft and couldn't fix it either
How to run 1080 video on laptop that can only play smoothly 720p video because of its poor hardware? Can I download some special codecs or lower details in some way, or do I need to change its format ? If yes, this will take minutes or hours?
Laptop uses Windows XP, I play the videos locally and I can use any program to watch. The laptop isn't mine so I don't remember the exact config. But processor is between 1 and 2 GHz and about 1 GB RAM. I don't know anything about graphic cards - but I guess it does exist - it can play 720p smoothly.
You downsample the video to a lower resolution. Use a tool like HandBrake or mencoder. There are codecs that can downsample or change video resolution on-the-fly but that is hardware intensive and will make your video choppy on 720p as well.
Looking at your specs, the 1 GB of RAM and processor is a red light. You'll def need more than that to play high def video. I have 4 GB with core 2 duo 2.2Ghz and even then sometimes playback is skipped (very rare though).
Playing a 1080p video can be played at lower resolutions i.e. 720 or even 480. The issue is whether the computer it self can handle the playback. My guess, is that the laptop's video card isn't capable of playing the HD video smoothly as well, but that's hard to tell due to the lower specs of the processor and memory.
I've personally found that CoreAVC has the best decoding capability I've seen. Uses far less CPU than any other h.264 (which I'm assuming you're playing) decoder around. Only problem is that it's pay (but only $10).
and then unplug the laptop... wait until it screams. I could systemctl status checkpower to see the echos and errors. 'q' out of the status and go back in to update. There is probably a better way to do that.
I have quite a few expansion packs, no mods/cc (but would like it to handle this incase I want to get into it) but don't need the best of the best, just something that'll let me play the game with no issues.
@hannahnolloth While Dreamlight Valley is easy to run on even a lower-end machine, Palia is not. In fact, according to the publisher's website, the requirements for ultra settings are about what you'd see in a 1,500 gaming desktop. The minimum requirement for the graphics card, at least on this site, is an Nvidia GTX 960, and older and very much outdated GPU, but it's still twice as fast as the fastest graphics options you'd find for under 500. The recommended graphics card is a GTX 1060, which is about as fast as a 3050 mobile.
If you don't mind very low graphics settings and perhaps some performance issues, I could certainly find you a sub-500 laptop that would run Sims 4 fine and probably run Palia without crashing too much. Steam's minimum requirement for the game is a GTX 660, significantly slower and on par with the best integrated graphics available for around 500. So I would guess you could play, but the experience might not be great. Whether it's worth the extra money to upgrade is entirely your call.
If you're willing to go up to 850, this one is an upgrade even over the one above: its graphics card is the newer and significantly faster version of the one in the Asus, and it has a brighter screen:
If you'd rather not spend so much money, this Acer has an upgraded graphics card (same tier, newer and significantly faster generation) than the HPs and is otherwise equivalent. Its RTX 4050 is a bit below the RTX 3060 but is still much faster than the 3050.
It does only have 8 GB RAM, but you could get another 8 GB for around 20 and install it yourself with a screwdriver and some patience. RAM is the easiest upgrade to install, and most gaming laptops make the process very simple. It's of course more convenient to have the full 16 GB pre-installed, but that raises the price, and at that point you could upgrade to an RTX 3060 along with doubling the memory.
@hannahnolloth What other games are you looking to play? 500 is plenty for a laptop for Sims 4 if you're comfortable with medium-high graphics settings, but other games might benefit significantly from an-entry level gaming laptop. Those start around 650, maybe less when on sale.
