Ican no longer enter command from my keyboard directly. I have to use the command line. I also cannot enter distance either when drawing a line. I must have disabled a variable or something but I don't know which one.
Well yeah that plus other things like the vport command I used to able just type it and envoke the command but now I have to have the command line open at the bottom of the screen to due any command. I did look at the drafting settings and it doesn't look like anything has been changed in the dynamic input tab. Not sure what changed from yesterday when it was working fine till today and now it's not working. Something must have been turned off but I don't know what.
Sorry but I'm a one man show here and I have to stay on top of all the fire alarm stuff from design to installation and final acceptance. I know what Dynamic Input is but with everything else I have to do trying to remember what every feature and command there is in autocad is challenging.
Hi, I have the same problem, but in my case even though Dynamic Input is set to 3, it did not fix my problem. I still cant type in commands directly from my keyboard. I have to put my cursor directly in the command line.
Hi, I have the same issue. Tried the DYNMODE=3 & DYNPROMPT=1 but did not work. I'm unable to type anything as the field box disappears before i can key any command and it doesn't register anything i type. I have to hover over the command line to input data or command. I can only attribute this to the updated system macOS Ventura 13.2.1, as it was working fine until the update. Nothing else has changed!
I have the same issue! Whenever I type a command on the screen, the first letter shows up and then disappears. Commands only seem to work when I use the command line. I've tried changing all the dynamic input settings, restart, restore default AutoCAD settings, etc, nothing seems to fix the problem. Help!
When the cursor is in the drawing field, when I start typing a command, the Dynamic Prompt box next to the cursor briefly flashes the character I typed, but nothing shows up on the command line. I need to click into the command line bar to be able to enter any command.
This happens to me ALL THE TIME in Civil 3D (Which is the main program I use 99.9% of the time). I'm typing this now while not being able to use any keyboard commands in CAD. I have to close out of the program and restart it. VERY ANNOYING! It has done this for years!
I just had this problem where nothing on the keyboard was working within Autocad. Nothing. But then outside of the program everything worked. Turns out my brother hit the F8 key to pause a video that I had playing in Chrome. Once I hit it again, everything worked.
I don't have the level of details on and the keyboard is not working either. You cannot type a single command from the keyboard (that would include LEVELOFDETAILOFF even though it works in other so clearly an AUTODESK ISSUE. Another to add to the long list of Autodesk procrastinations.
I have been having the same issue in 2020 Civil 3D for past 4 months. Keyboard is working just fine everywhere else except in ACAD....very frustrated. Generally, I have to close out and restart.......a major annoyance!
"Move" is set as "M" and "Mirror" is set as "MI". When I'm in a groove my keystrokes and mouse action are very fast. If I want to mirror something I input "MI (then mouse right click)" in a subsequent microsecond, but CAD doesn't register the "MI". It only gets the "M" and runs the move command, so I need to exit out and start over.
It happens during a command as well. Let's say I want to move something 24 inches. I will select the object while in the move command and input "24 (then mouse right click)" very fast, but it will only register the 2 and move it 2 inches.
The second of a double keystroke doesn't register unless I make myself delay. It adds up over time and is annoying. My home setup doesn't have this issue - only my office setup. INPUTSEARCHDELAY is not the issue.
When already have selected something, enter 'dr' (draworder) and after that twice the spacebar the second spacebar hit sometimes repeats the 'dr' input. This has NEVER been the case in previous versions and is utterly annoying.
Lately a new bug occurs. Input is not 'landing' in the drawing I am working in but in another one that is also opened in the same c3d session. So no reaction on the screen while typing. ctrl-tab to switch to another drawing and switch back resolves the issue. Again, quite annoying.
The best ones are like this: I hit LA (over here classiclayer) the 'l' is executed in my current drawing. The 'a' is executed in another open drawing. It's getting more bizar as time ticks on it seems.
All this fun costs me 1200 euro a year for annual desription but because autodesk needs more moeny to invent more crap while not fixing old issues they will soon charge 250 a month by cancelling annual subscription. Unfortunatelly there only 1 option and that is to keep using it.
this happens quite often. Instead of picking a random point for 'first point' with a left mouse click the program all of a sudden thinks it has to repeat 'm' wich I use for the move command. After 20 years of working with autocad I do not check the command line when working. The only indication that this command did not work is that the next command does not respond like it should. It is utterly annoying because after this bug happens I have to check Z coordinate of the objects I wanted to move, thus wasting more time.
Another very funny one. Object that I want to sent to the back with the draworder command was already selected. Second spacebar hit simply repeats the dr command. Again not checking the command line becaue it used to work for 20 years like this but being confronted with this bug again when already trying to something else. lol, trying because these days I never know if it works like intended :s
I have so many Civil 3D 2018 performance issues the list is too long to post. I'm on a $3,500 Dell Precision Workstation with 8-Core Xeon processor, 64GB Ram, 1GB SSD Quadro M2000 and this software is a complete dog. I'm running out of things to disable to get it working properly. Latest issue is an 8-second lag in bringing down the layer dropdown. Keyboard input is seconds behind, every other command has a second or so lag that when multiplied a few hundred times a day drives you absolutely mad.
I am so tired of spending thousand of dollars a year on subscription for software that just continually gets worse. Time to throw this code in the garbage and build a ground up solution like Revit instead of this frankenstein version of AutoCAD. I'm over it. No matter how fast PC's get over time, Civil 3D manages to outpace it so that performance gets worse. This is a failed experiment.
I have the same problem, and my settings are exactly as described (can't stand dynamic input, anyway). ACAD still can't keep up with keystrokes. I have been using ACAD for over 30 years, so I have hundreds of commands memorized and don't need to hunt around for buttons or to wait for command line to tell me my next move, so keyboard input is my primary way of drawing.
Never thought it would've come down to graphics card / compatibility but I think it's worth a try. Seemed to make the difference for me. That little window fading and graphic tweaks (halo effect on selections, etc.), all gone, CAD runs snappier:
Yesterday I was once again hindered severly by the 'command in other drawing' feature and contacted autodesk about it. I hope they will seriously look into it and fix it instead of inventing more stuff we don't need.
(ACAD2013) Trying to get keyboard zoom working the same as in Adobe applications, ctrl plus and minus to zoom in and out.
I'm familiar with the cui process: Open CUI, Grab the zoom in/out command, drag it to keyboard shortcuts/shortcut keys, and then input the access keys.
Unfortunately, it won't accept the plus or minus keys. Seems like it's only accepting ctrl + alphanumeric characters. Any way to get this working?
Perhaps there are key codes which relate to the plus and minus keys which can be manually typed into the access/key(s) field?
As far as I know, I don't believe there is a way to use + and - in your shortcut keys. I don't really know why, It may cause some kind of conflict in the program. You can use the arrow keys in your keyboard shortcuts if you find that more convenient (ctrl+up arrow/downarrow). You could also use the center wheel of the mouse to zoom in and out.
The middle mouse wheel performs a plus/minus zoom but I'm unsure of the zoom/scale factor. It's nice to place your cursor and have the action occurr based upon your cursor position vs center of screen. Also don't forget that a double-click of the wheel gets you zoom->extents and a press and drag of the wheel gets you panning.
Every architect who incorporates technology in his work knows firsthand how vital it is to have an efficient workflow. One of the best ways to save time and streamline your design processes in AutoCAD is by using keyboard shortcuts. These shortcuts allow you to quickly access commands, tools, and settings without having to navigate through multiple menus, increasing your overall productivity. In this blog post, I will share my top 10 AutoCAD keyboard shortcuts that can save you time and help you become a more efficient architect or designer.
Ortho mode is crucial for creating straight lines and maintaining accuracy in your drawings. Pressing F8 toggles Ortho mode on and off, allowing you to easily switch between freeform drawing and precise horizontal or vertical lines.
Object Snap, or OSNAP, is an invaluable feature that allows you to snap to specific points on objects, such as endpoints, midpoints, or centers. Press F3 to toggle OSNAP on and off quickly. When used in combination with Ortho mode (F8), you can efficiently draw accurate lines and shapes that connect to existing geometry.
