Just got a second monitor for the purpose of having two tabs open at the same time to work on two drawings with only one session of ACAD2020 opened using windows 10. Being a novice at this setup, not sure if/how possible. I have the display setting at "extend these displays" under multiple displays. I can open separate sessions of AutoCAD in each monitor (workaround) and can have multiple tabs in each monitor opened. I want to be able to open 1 session with a separate tab opened on each monitor.
Going to back all this up for a minute, to cover a few basics. All drawing windows must exist inside the application window. If you have multiple AutoCAD sessions running, each can have its own set of drawings open, and they are within the appropriate parent application window.
Since at least 2007 and through 2013, MS office programs (Excel and Word to be exact) do not use tabs for multiple files, they open separate instances of the program windows. Test it, open a file, reduce the window to less than full screen but not minimized, open or create a 'new' file. You have two program windows. Excel gives added tabs as the bottom for added sheets, but these remain in the original file and file window. Autocad still use the old multiple file tab paradigm or the single drawing interface (sdi=1) similar to MS Office.
I tried the compatibility mode in my Windows 10 Pro 64-bit but it will not work and I'm not about to buy another version of Windows 10 (32-bit). I did contact Longbow Software and Lex Steel said that their Converter should work for this on Windows 10 so thanks to Darren P. in the post above for that tip. Here's a link to the Longbow site with the info on this... -autocad-lt98-on-windows-7-and-windows-8/
I have AutoCAD LT98 running on Window 10 Pro 64 bit (version 1903) in Windows 98 compatibility mode. I used a 32 bit installer I found on the internet. I had to copy some files from an old windows XP computer with AutoCAD LT98 running on it. It seems to run flawlessly with an occasional crash when opening a file. I did this for a friend. I personally have newer versions of AutoCAD. I found the information to do this by searching the internet.
Hi Pascal. The reference script works between 3dsmax and rhino, not autocad. How it works under the hood i dont really know though.
On the user side of things i just assign some command in 3ds/rhino to copy and paste the files.
I have no idea what a third party bool is I am using windows 10 cut and paste clipboard. Nothing can be moved between the two programs using this method. If you could explain how you are able to achieve it I would be most grateful.
I personally don't have any problems running windows desktops with parallels on my mac. I do some development with windows and mac. Currently I run windows7 (visual studio and sql express), windows8.1 ( visual studio 2012), and windows server 2008 r2 with sql server on my iMac with no issues. I did recently increase my ram from 8 gigs to 24gigs. This was only so I could give each VM at least 4gigs. Parallels has a really cool coherence feature that makes windows applications look like they are native mac.
