Frompitches to plants. From hardballs to hibiscus. From the strike zone to the root zone. Those phrases are a way of describing the transition made by a Major League Baseball player who, with his daughter, has developed one of the leading plant nurseries in the nation.
While being developed in the minor leagues, he was playing in Des Moines when he met the young woman who would become his wife. He went on to a 17-year major-league career, serving as a two-time all-star relief pitcher for the California Angels, Boston Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers.
One of his buddies on the Red Sox was traded to the Kansas City Royals. When Mark came for a visit, he found he loved the hunting and fishing in the KC area. In fact, he liked it so well that he moved his family to Olathe after retiring from baseball. He also sold his share of the partnership in California and bought a home with a tree nursery in Olathe. He called it Loma Vista Nursery.
As Loma Vista Nursery continued to grow and evolve, Lyndsi came back to work at the nursery. She worked in every department and became vice president of the company, which is now headquartered in Ottawa, Kansas.
Loma Vista Nursery offers various varieties of pot-in-pot trees, shrubs, roses, grasses, perennials and groundcovers. The tree farm produces field-grown shade and ornamental trees, upright junipers and spruce, as well as many other deciduous and evergreen varieties. Loma Vista serves customers from Denver to Indianapolis.

Mark Clear had an All-Star career as a major league pitcher while working in a tree nursery during the offseason. After retiring from baseball, he moved to Kansas and opened a nursery which is now operated by his daughter, Lyndsi Oestman, and has become one of the leading wholesale suppliers of plants, trees and shrubs in the nation.
Loma Vista Nursery has shipped throughout the Midwest since 1991, but our roots in horticulture run deep. Founder Mark Clear first discovered his passion for plants working on a California avocado ranch in his youth. His lifelong dream of becoming a nurseryman was thrown a curve ball when he signed to play professional baseball in the year of 1974. Throughout his career as an
All-Star MLB pitcher, Clear continued to pursue his love of horticulture. He purchased a nursery in southern California in 1979 and operated that nursery until he retired from baseball in 1991. He then moved to Kansas, bought property and continued following his passion growing plants and selling plants.
Today, Loma Vista Nursery remains family owned and operated. We apply the same persistent pursuit of achievement that allowed Mark a successful 17 year career in MLB. Because of our focus on healthy plants, timely delivery, and unrivaled value, the nursery operation has grown to one of the largest in the midwest.

The product sits at the crux of two macro trends: the explosive growth of the RTD beverage segment, which is up +80% this year*, and the rise in popularity of tequila, which holds the third-largest share of the spirits category*. With the novelty of tequila-based RTDs, Loma Vista Tequila Soda offers Boston Beer an opportunity to stake its claim in the space.
Loma Vista Tequila Soda was inspired by the mind-soothing, body reinvigorating, deep purple and fiery orange sunsets that can be seen from the highest point on the multi-generational Yarborough family ranch in West Texas. This pristine peak, aptly named Loma Vista, is a place where gathering at dusk to revel in the view is not only a good idea, but a decades-old tradition. Steeped in natural beauty, it calls adventurers from all over to kick up their boots, let loose and rediscover their inner wild.
"Because we know not everyone can trace the winding trails out to Loma Vista's remote, yet awe-inspiring view, we worked in collaboration with Justin Yarborough of the Yarborough ranching family to develop Loma Vista Tequila Soda, an authentic lifestyle brand rooted in a real place, a real story and real tequila," said Sammy Cohen, The Boston Beer Company's co-head of brand innovation. "As refreshing as the view that inspired it, this transportive beverage offers folks everywhere the chance to drink in the magic of an all-day, Loma Vista sunset, one sip at a time. It's an indescribable and totally immersive experience that we're so excited to share. When the sun sets, we drink!"
The Boston Beer Company aspires to be the most innovative consumer-oriented beverage company in the world. Its two-fold innovation strategy includes thoughtful expansion of existing product lines to meet consumer needs as well as purposeful development of new brands that capitalize on current and future industry trends. While some new products are launched nationally, others will be released in a limited number of markets to test and learn before being released to broader audiences.

To give you an example, I need look no further than my own birth records. I was adopted when I was just 5 days old. To a mother and father who already had two biological children of their own. I was the only adopted kid on the block. My Mom told me my family was special. Looking back on it now, I guess we were also modern.
45 years later, I gave birth to a baby boy, conceived with love (and IVF). I used a donor egg to get pregnant, which is an example of modern technology at its finest. I know dozens of women who have gone through fertility treatments as well, including one of my best friends. She got pregnant after three rounds of IVF. Four years later, she and her husband adopted a little girl from China.
