DigitalOcean no longer provides an Arch Linux image. This decision was made for a number of reasons, but primarily it was due to lack of uptake by users compared to the maintenance burden of supporting a rolling release distro. Unfortunately, Arch Linux never accounted for more than 1% of the droplets that were spun up. While I can't give you exact numbers, it's safe to say that it accounted for more than 1% of support tickets.

I frequently need to check the slug or id of a particular Droplet image (or in AWS parlance, an AMI) that I can use to launch new DigitalOcean droplets via Ansible. And seeing as tonight I had to search for 'how to get a list of all DigitalOcean images' about the hundredth time, I figured I'd publish this in a blog post so I can find it more easily in the future.

However, one feature in particular sets them apart them from their competitors. A little while ago, they added support for custom images, which allows users to import virtual machine disks and use them as droplets. This is perfect for us as we can use our own version of Kali Linux in their cloud.

To test this python-digitalocean you can usedocker to have a clean environmentautomatically. First you have to build the container by running inyour shell on the repository directory:

If there is insufficient memory on the server to allow for 2 docker containers to run at the same time, the deploy will fail and it could bring down your server. To get around this, the server should be upgraded with more memory (which means more $$) or the server can be configure with swap space. For more details on swap space and how to configure it on a digital ocean server, see this guide. The linked guide outlines the commands needed to setup swap space, and those are summarized below.

DigitalOcean has created a GitLab application image that can be used to
instantly deploy GitLab Community Edition on a DigitalOcean Ubuntu 14.04 x86-64
droplet using the Omnibus installer. You can have your own repository system
up and running in minutes.

Now create a droplet from that image and enable VPC or choose an already created VPC instance. There is also some tweaking needed once you create a droplet. First, you need to access the console and follow pfsense setup, define the WAN network which is the first adapter, then make sure that you do not define a LAN network. This step is important because when you don't define a LAN, pfsense places an anti-lockout rule on the WAN interface, which is the interface you will be using to connect to pfsense GUI.
