EDITSUbuntu tweak doesn't seem to be able to change the window theme either (although all other themes like icon themes are all easily modifiable). Tweak tool can change the window theme, however.

I recommend to anyone still with this black desktop problem unsolved, to try logging in to another account and checking both Unity and GLX plugins are activated. IE 'opengl' & 'unityshell'.Use the following command with the get option, instead of reset, to list them:

In Windows 10 this no longer works. It only returns the first image in the folder, it does not change with the backgrounds as they transition. I need a similar command that returns the path(s) to the current image on the desktop background(s) that actually works in Windows 10 if one exists.

Note: The file TranscodedWallpaper in Path 2 does not have a file extension. Use "Open With" or "How do you want to open this file?" dialogue box and select any image viewer, such as, "Windows Photo Viewer" or the "Photos" app.

To decode the registry key and view the image in Windows Explorer, you may follow the instructions listed on ElevenForum.com or use Notepad to save the vbs code mentioned below in a .vbs file and run it.

Note on 3rd party apps

When 3rd party apps like John's Background Switcher are used to manage desktop backgrounds (which I used on my older Win10 PC), they typically provide an option to view the current/previous desktop background (if set by the app itself). Check the app's help file to know more.

Windows 10 Personalize Settings shows 5 wallpapers used recently, IF THE ORIGINAL FILES STILL EXIST but, if you set your wallpaper using the Windows 10's Photos app, a copy of the image will be kept in this location (only 1 photo will be kept):

If the directories do not exist, It's most likely that for each version of Windows, the Photos app version might be different so mind the trailing characters in this folder name: Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe, look around and in the parent directory (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\) and you will find the folder related to the Photos app Microsoft.Windows.Photos_RandomCharacters. My version of Windows 10 is 1803.

You don't explain exactly what is the FINAL purpose of this, so I can give some tips here based on a guess: you want to change your wallpaper in certain conditions (for example, one wallpaper every time you restart your computer) or to use a custom file as wallpaper.

If you want to build your own CMD script, this might be unreliable IF you set the wallpaper not from Windows but from an external program. For example, if I see a nice image in my browser, I set it as wallpaper directly from there. Same for IrfanView. I can easily name another 10 popular programs that could change the wallpaper to a custom path.

Note that some programs are changing the wallpaper without actually writing a file to disk. This can be done by hooking to the Microsoft Windows Desktop window and drawing directly on its canvas. This is how GIF/AVI animations are drawn on desktop.

The solution (if I guessed your problem correctly) would be to use a program like John's Background Switcher or BioniX Desktop Background Changer. The latter is much more customizable and can be controlled via command line. It also has auto-detection to detect the best way to resize the image (fill/fit/tile). BioniX can also draw GIF without writing anything to disk (as explained above).

Desktop backgrounds and themes are an opportunity to provide a range of visuals that appeal to the diverse users of Windows-based devices. By setting the default desktop background and adding additional themes, you are can provide our shared customers with a visual sense of style that can highlight the design of the device.

The new Windows desktop background highlights and draws attention to the newly designed customer experience. This iconic design complements the centered emphasis in the customer experience and radiates from the center outward. The centered taskbar and Start menu are highlighted by this design.

The design is both simple and bold. It consisted of multiple parts but creates a singular and strong form. The centered design uses negative space around the object to bring attention to the center, again, in harmony with the new design of the customer experience.

While Microsoft encourages you to use the new iconic desktop background, you can choose instead to create and add your own custom background, following these design goals of the Windows iconic background:

The image you choose should complement the Start menu. Use an image that can frame the open Start menu. The size of the Start menu is approximately 642x724 pixels, the height of the taskbar is 48px, and the gap between the taskbar and Start menu is 12px.

I wanted to mention something that I think is an issue. It is mildly frustrating to myself at least. I'm using Teamviewer 14.5 and Windows 7, as far as I know this issue has been present since I've been using Teamviewer for the past few years. It has to do with when you connect to a remote computer and the option to "show blank background" is selected. After the connection session is ended, on the remote pc Teamviewer restores the previous background image BUT if that remote pc was using a theme with a slideshow of background images, it does not get restored to that original theme as was once active on that remote pc. Teamviewer seems to simply make a new temporary theme with only a single image, whichever image was being displayed at the time of connection, and that single image gets restored as the final background on that computer. It is mildly frustrating when that setting gets overwritten each time you remote in to help somebody and their settings don't get restored properly. Hopefully that is explained properly.

Augmented reality is AWESOME and Teamviewer is doing great things, but these little details will also make the already great software just that much better. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed in future versions.

Has this issue been fixed? I have a similar issue on our Win10 clients. When establishing the connection to a client needing support, the background on the desktop turns black. Icons are all present and work properly. I was thinking this was some kind of bandwidth saver or something. Anyway, the users sometimes call me back after support has ended, stating their background is still black (they usually have a picture set to the Background).

Connected to user and noticed their background was orange instead of black. I assumed since it was a solid color it was not being replaced with black like normal. After I disconnected, the user message me on MS Teams letting me know I was still connected. I confirmed I was not and asked why they thought so. She said her screen didn't change back from orange to her beautiful mountains. So Team Viewer changed the background to orange instead of black, then left it that way.

wondering if anyone out there has added a background image to their theme, I have not been able to get it to work. I can add it to my lovelace config and get it to work, but I have 2 themes, light and dark with an automation and would like to have 2 different backgrounds. this works for only one background in the lovelace config

background: center / cover no-repeat url("/local/background_dark2.jpg") fixed

but not in the theme.yaml file I have, any thoughts?

I have lovelace setup but not the main frontend yet, basically I can flip the switch but want it the way I want before I do that. I am very close just a few things left. Basically I have the automation set to light for above_horizon and dark for below_horizon. I want all backgrounds to be the same just change for sun up and sun down with the theme change
