Male voice choirs are commonly found in the United Kingdom,[1] particularly in Wales, Cornwall, and Yorkshire. The names of male voice choirs sometimes use the abbreviation MVC, for example Castleford MVC.
In addition, men have come together to make music and enjoy the fellowship of others with a similar passion. Glee clubs became popular in the United States where men would sing in harmony, usually a cappella. Russia has a long tradition of men singing in the Russian Orthodox Church. Elsewhere in the world, such as in Wales, parts of the US and Europe, male choirs arose[clarification needed] from the late 19th century through to present times.[citation needed]
Male choirs (1st tenor, 2nd tenor, baritone and bass) even without trebles or boy sopranos have a slight advantage over women's choirs in that 1st tenors singing in the falsetto range of their voice can extend the range to encompass most of the range available to a female choir. However, even the lowest female voices cannot extend into the bass range of a men's choir or chorus. Arguably the most well-known male choruses are those in Wales, but there are highly skilled choirs around the world. Most[citation needed] male choruses today sing a wide range of music, including the traditional Welsh hymns but also choruses from opera, musical comedy and the popular genre.[citation needed]
Many of the modern Germany male choruses owe their origins to the Liedertafel [de] groups which were very popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries, with some groups still singing.[citation needed]

When it comes to virtual choirs there are basically two approaches: Phrasebulding (StormChoir series) and Wordbuilding (Rhodope series). Wotan combines the simplicity and sample recording of phrasebuilding with the advanced editing functions of wordbuilding. This allows you to have amazing sounding results within seconds, but also to build and create new sample content with only few mouse-clicks. Create complete choral patterns inside the GUI or connect different syllables and morph them to add motion to your choir arrangements. Save and Load complete lyric presets to quickly get yourself into the actual composition or enhance your setup with predefined quick words.
All samples have their natural attacks included. However if you want to tighten them up the Syllabuilder Engine allows you to set custom attack, release, volume and offset values for each field independently. Something completely new and greatly missed in all phrasebuilding choir libraries.
Although there are many reasons WOTAN justifies to be called a next-gen library the biggest of them all is the brandnew Agile Legato. Uncountable hours of work went into creating this brandnew technique of combining true legato sampling with our Syllabuilding approach. Agile Legato not only allows the user to play legato with every syllable availabe in the library, but also features intelligent voice leading enabling polyphonic writing within just one patch. In other words: Hold down a chord in the left, play a melody with your right hand and have it all connected with legato transitions. This powerful feature is controllable by the most common of all midi cc controllers, the sustain pedal.
In addition to the Agile Legato WOTAN also features polyphonic true legato patches (Ah, Mm and Oh) for both tenors and basses, which gives you tons of flexibility when it comes to writing legato lines.
By tradition our choral products excel at accessibility and getting great sounding choir lines within seconds. The Performance Patch allows you to perform your choir lines on the fly due to custom edits of the recordings to make them extremely playable, while maintaining their organic and raw tone.
Our Velocity Dynamic Influencer allows you to determine the loudness of single chord notes by velocity, which makes highlighting certain notes within a chord easier than ever, while Modwheel CC1 still controls crossfading between the natural dynamic layers. The combination of both greatly enhances the expression you can get out of a regular keyboard performance.

To celebrate one hundred and thirty years since the first concert, the Victoria Arion Male Choir had its Spring concert at Cordova Bay United Church on May 28th, 2023. Under the direction of Sean Lampard-Quicke, accompanied by our collaborative pianist Jennifer Mitchell and other musicians, the choir performed a program that contained some of the arrangements from our history as well as a selection of sea shanties, perhaps the earliest tradition of male singing.
Cr Meibion Dyfnant / Dunvant Male Choir has the unique achievement of 128 years of unbroken history, enjoying the distinction of being the oldest in Wales with a continuous history. It was formed in January 1895 by a group of miners, steelworkers and quarrymen from the members of Ebenezer Chapel. It is the archetypal Welsh Choir that sprung naturally out of its community and the mould of the times.

The Wagga City Rugby Male Choir (WCRMC) is based in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales Australia. It is one of only two male choirs in Australia directly associated with a rugby club, the other being the Australian Rugby Choir.
