Rule 3.3: Requests for personalized recommendations or suggestions are not allowed. Post instead to our Weekly Recommendation Thread (always CSS stickied at the top of any r/books page), r/suggestmeabook or r/whattoreadwhen. Also try r/booklists or our Suggested Reading list wiki page. Posts asking users to list their favorite/the best book of a genre, style, etc that don't include an answer and why in the body will be assumed to be recommendation requests and removed.

The American Library Association (ALA) documented 1,269 demands to censor library books and resources in 2022, the highest number of attempted book bans since ALA began compiling data about censorship in libraries more than 20 years ago. ALA recently released preliminary 2023 data showing that censorship attempts are increasingly moving to public libraries. Most targeted books are for a teen audience and are by or about Black or LGBTQIA+ persons.

The Practices & Possibilities Series addresses the full range of practices within the field of writing studies, including instructional practices, research methodologies, and professional practices. The books in this series explore issues and ideas of interest to writers, teachers, researchers, and theorists who share an interest in improving existing practices and exploring new possibilities.
The Latin America Section of the International Exchanges on the Study of Writing book series publishes peer-reviewed books about writing, writers, teaching with writing, and scholarly writing practices from Latin American perspectives. It also offers re-editions of recognized peer-reviewed books originally published in the region.
The #writing Series publishes open-access and print books in digital rhetoric, new media studies, digital humanities, techno-pedagogy, and similar areas of interest. The series focuses on single- or co-authored monographs that address themes, methodologies, and/or pedagogies in these areas.

The Utah State University Press on WAC series offers open-access digital editions of leading books on WAC published by Utah State University Press. The books in this series are part of a larger collection of open-access books available through the USU Press Digital Commons.
The NCTE on WAC series offers open-acces digital editions of leading books on WAC published by the National Council of Teachers of English. Many of these books can be purchased in print editions through NCTE.
The CCCC Studies in Writing & Rhetoric series seeks to influence how writing istaught at the college level. In partnership with the WAC Clearinghouse, CCCC and the series editors are making selected books from the series available in open-access formats.
In 1997, RhetNet editor Eric Crump wrote of the two books included on the journal's Web site, "We use the word 'books' with some trepidation in these parts, but the texts included in association with that term exhibit decidedly bookish characteristics." The two books published by RhetNet offer insights into early online work in the field of composition and rhetoric.
Our books, journals, and resources are made available through the dedicated volunteer efforts of the large group of scholars involved with the Clearinghouse. Nonetheless, we still incur costs, such as payments to copy editors and designers, software and server costs, and fees associated with obtaining ISBN numbers and DOIs. To add insult to injury, these sham books are getting added to my official Goodreads profile. A reasonable person might think I control what books are shown on my Goodreads profile, or that I approve them, or at the very least I could have them easily removed. Not so.
We desperately need guardrails on this landslide of misattribution and misinformation. Amazon and Goodreads, I beg you to create a way to verify authorship, or for authors to easily block fraudulent books credited to them. Do it now, do it quickly.
You need to specify ID fields with certain API method calls. There are threetypes of IDs used within Google Books:
- Volume IDs - Unique strings given to each volume that Google Books knows about. An example of a volume ID is _LettPDhwR0C. You can use the API to get the volume ID by making a request that returns a Volume resource; you can find the volume ID in its id field.
- Bookshelf IDs - Numeric values given to a bookshelf in a user's library. Google provides some pre-defined shelves for every user with the following IDs:
- Favorites: 0
- Purchased: 1
- To Read: 2
- Reading Now: 3
- Have Read: 4
- Reviewed: 5
- Recently Viewed: 6
- My eBooks: 7
- Books For You: 8 If we have no recommendations for the user, this shelf does not exist.
- User IDs - Unique numeric values assigned to each user. These values are not necessarily the same ID value used in other Google services. Currently, the only way retrieve the user ID is to extract it from the selfLink in a Bookshelf resource retrieved with an authenticated request. Users can also obtain their own user ID from the Books site. A user cannot obtain the user ID for another user via the API or the Books site; the other user would have to share that information explicitly, by email for example.
