Suomenmestari on aikuisille suunnattu S2-oppikirjasarja, joka sopii useille eri suomen kielen kursseille. Sarjan aihepiirit liittyvt opiskelijan arkeen, ja monipuoliset tehtvtyypit harjoituttavat tasapainoisesti kielen eri osa-alueita. Kielioppiosioiden selken esitystapaan on kiinnitetty erityist huomiota.

Suositun Suomen mestari 1 oppikirjan uudistettu laitos on saatavilla nyt mys digikirjana. Digikirjaa voi kytt niin tietokoneella, lypuhelimella kuin tabletillakin. Suomen mestari 1 digikirja vastaa sislliltn painettua oppikirjaa: molemmissa on samat tekstit, kielioppisivut ja harjoitukset. Opiskelija voi siis kytt kumpaa tahansa ja saavuttaa samat tiedot ja taidot.

Suomen mestari -oppimateriaalisarjan luoneet Sonja Gehring ja Sanni Heinzmann palkittiin huhtikuussa Otavan kirjastin oppimateriaalipalkinnolla. He ovat ensimmiset tmn palkinnon saaneet S2-oppikirjailijat. Palkinnostaan iloiset Sonja ja Sanni arvostavat saamaansa tunnustusta ja kertovat tarinan suositun sarjan takana.

Olen valmistunut saksan- ja S2-opettajaksi Helsingin yliopistosta. Valtaosan suomen opettajan tystni olen tehnyt eri yrityksiss ja oppilaitoksissa sek Helsingin seudun kesyliopiston kursseilla. Tll hetkell toimin kuitenkin posin saksan kielen parissa: viime vuodet olen opettanut mm. Helsingin yliopiston kielikeskuksessa, vapaan sivistystyn puolella sek eri yrityksiss.

Sydmeltni olen S2-opettaja, ja olen opettanut suomea aikuisille parikymment vuotta enimmkseen korkeakoulussa Suomessa ja ulkomailla, mutta mys kotoutuskoulutuksessa ja vapaan sivistystyn piiriss. Ensimminen Suomen mestari alkoi it mielessni jo 2000-luvun alussa toimiessani ulkomaanlehtorina Klnin yliopistossa Saksassa, vaikka kestikin vuoteen 2007 asti, kunnes Sonja Gehringin kanssa aloimme toden teolla kirjoittaa ensimmist kirjaa. Oppikirjailijuus onkin S2-opettajuuteni yht vahva ilmentym kuin itse opettaminen. Sek kirjoissa ett opetuksessani yritn helpottaa oppijan taakkaa kaikin tavoin: materiaalien selkeydell, valikoidulla keskeisell sanastolla ja tietysti huumorilla ja hauskuudella. Paras palkinto ja inspiraatio on oppijoiden iloinen edistyminen.

Olen opettanut suomea toisena kielen, toisena kotimaisena kielen, vieraana kielen ja idinkielen eri korkeakouluissa Suomessa ja ulkomailla sek aikuiskoulutuskeskuksessa ja tyvenopistossa. Tll hetkell olen vapautettuna suomen kielen yliopisto-opettajan tehtvstni Helsingin yliopistossa ja tyskentelen Suomen kielen ja kulttuurin vierailevana lehtorina Washingtonin yliopistossa Seattlessa. Osaksi mahtavaa Suomen mestari -tekijryhm psin kevll 2020, kun laadimme uudistetun Suomen mestari 1 -oppikirjan rinnalle opiskelijan digitehtvt. Olen kannustava, innostava ja heittytyv opettaja. Oppimateriaaleissani kiinnitn erityist huomiota niiden monipuolisuuteen ja visuaaliseen selkeyteen.

Olen toiminut aikuisten S2-opettajana jo kolmisenkymment vuotta, josta suurimman osan ajasta yliopisto-opettajana. Jonkin verran minulla on kokemusta mys finskan ja kotimaisen kirjallisuuden opettamisesta. Muutamia vuosia tyskentelin ulkomaanlehtorina, ensin 1990-luvulla Sofian yliopistossa, Bulgariassa ja sitten 2000-luvulla Islannin yliopistossa. Tll hetkell olen tiss Helsingin yliopiston Suomen kielen ja kulttuurin opintosuunnassa (kansainvlisille opiskelijoille). Koulutukseltani olen kirjallisuudentutkija ja siksi opetan eritasoisten suomen kielen kurssien lisksi mys Suomen historiaa ja yhteiskuntatietoa sek suomalaista kulttuurihistoriaa ja kirjallisuutta.

Tyskentelen yliopisto-opettajana Helsingin yliopistossa, Suomen kielen ja kulttuurin opintosuunnassa (2012 -). Tyhni kuuluu sek suomen kielen opetusta toisena ja vieraana kielen ett erilaisia alan suunnittelu- ja kehittmistehtvi.

Tyurani aikana olen saanut opettaa suomea niin idinkielen, vieraana kielen, toisena kielen kuin toisena kotimaisena kielen. Ennen nykyist tehtvni olen tyskennellyt mm. Aalto-yliopistossa ja Islannin yliopistossa mutta lyhyemmin mys koulu- ja yritysmaailmassa. Oppikirjailijuus on vain yksi esimerkki siit, miten monipuolisiin hommiin tll alalla voi pst. Julkaisemme kielten oppimateriaaleja aikuisopiskelijoille. Valikoimamme sislt oppimateriaalit lhes kaikkiin vapaan sivistystyn oppilaitoksissa opetettaviin kieliin sek muutamia oppimateriaaleja ammatillisen koulutuksen opetukseen.

The attitude of Finnish teachers towards spoken language has changed over the years. The current approach is that students learn both standard and spoken language side by side. This differs from the approach taken when the books were originally published, when the main focus in the very beginning was only on written Finnish. Thus, the books were remade to fit the new approach. The narratives present in each chapter of the old book are now dialogues, which are written in standard Finnish. However, the dialogues that were already present in the old version have now been made into spoken language dialogues.

The digital version of the book opens in your browser and is also usable on your smartphone or tablet. The contents are the same as the printed book. In addition, you can click on the listening exercises in the digital version to listen to them. The exercises from the printed book are included as interactive exercises, where you can get the exercises corrected automatically. Just like in the first book, the construction of each chapter in Suomen mestari 2 is very clear and easy to follow. Each chapter starts with a reading text, which is generally a mix of some narrative text and a dialogue related to it. After that, each chapter comes with pictures and word lists with vocabulary related to the topic of the chapter. For example, after a text about a trip to the summer cottage, you get pictures and words related to Finnish nature. After the vocabulary pages, all the new grammar of the chapter is explained. This takes multiple pages because all the grammar is combined in that one section. I think the idea is that you jump back and forth between the grammar pages and the exercise pages as you process the grammar.

Finn Lectura has also released vocabulary booklets for the following languages: English, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Persian, and Estonian. These booklets contain lists of the vocabulary used in each chapter in Suomen mestari 2.

In Suomen mestari 3, there seems to be an abrupt increase in the length (and to some extent also in difficulty) of the reading texts compared to the earlier books. Another big difference between the second book and the third book is the usage of spoken language. In Suomen mestari 3, most of the texts are written in spoken language.

Each chapter starts with a reading text or dialogue (or both), followed by several pages of vocabulary lists and grammar explanations. These are followed by a large number of exercises. The exercises allow you to practice both the grammar and the vocabulary of the chapter. There are traditional exercises such as fill-in-the-gaps and rephrasing exercises as well as other types of exercises.

There is only one version of Suomen mestari 3 and 4. The revamp of the whole series is still underway, so we can maybe expect to see a renewed version of Suomen mestari 3 in the future. I will update this page when there is any new information about this. As of May 2024, there is no information about the publishing schedule.

Because this book is mainly aimed at students who have already achieved level B1.1, the reading texts are focused on more abstract, informational and general knowledge topics. It contains, for example, texts related to architecture, natural catastrophes, crime and geography. These texts are generally pretty long and fairly dry. Each chapter also includes a dialogue, which is written in near to natural sounding spoken Finnish.

Just like the other books in the series, this book has a lot of exercises. I find these much more repetitive in this book than in previous parts, which is largely because so many of them are related to participles. A large portion requires you to rephrase sentences. There are other exercise types as well, such as useful vocabulary exercises and listening comprehension.
