Creature comforts
As temperatures dip, garden wildlife needs a little help. So plant some bird-friendly shrubs, build a hedgehog house and make hanging bird feeders.

What to do now...
Keep on top of garden and greenhouse jobs with the help of our weekly checklists.
Flowers checklist
    Take root cuttings of oriental poppies
  Prune rambling roses after flowering
  Rake autumn leaves from lawns and pick them out of borders for composting
Greenhouse checklist
  Clear out old tomato and cucumber plants and compost if disease free
  Move potted bulbs into the greenhouse to develop
  Bring potted herbs under cover to continue cropping over winter
Fruit & veg checklist
  Dig over empty borders and spread a layer of manure on top
  Lift and divide congested clumps of rhubarb
  Cut down asparagus ferns and Jerusalem artichoke tops
