Invitation

Honouring the Ancient Dead campaigns for respectful treatment of human remains (we prefer to call them ancestors) by museums and archaeologists up and down the country. We have recently relaunched our website with new technology that should allow anyone with an internet connection to get involved. And, today, we are launching a national poetry competition with the aim of speaking up for ancestors in a direct and meaningful way.

Now we are writing to you as a local PF group to invite your members to enter the competition or become HAD Volunteers.

Poetry Competition

Often we find displays of the bones of ancestors in museums that lack much, if any, consideration of the personhood of the individual on display. Honouring the Ancient Dead (HAD) never advocates display of ancestors but recognises that it still happens. Today we are launching a competition to create a poem to be used as a standard tribute for the ancient dead. Every museum known to have ancestors on display will be offered the winning poem to be used as a plaque alongside the display. Additionally, the best local entries will be presented to the relevant museum – to celebrate the community voice.

Detail can be found on HAD’s website at Poetry Competition
Volunteering

We need people to visit their local museums, to speak for the dead on display and in storage. If you feel you would like to get involved and be included on our mailing list of HAD Volunteers, please Contact Us with your interest and details via our website at www.honour.org.uk

Best wishes & thanks

Mike

Wild Winter Solitude.
9-11th Jan 2015

A winter retreat at Frampton-Mansell, Gloucestershire.

This mid-winter retreat is based in a warm camping barn from which we can venture out for brief (or longer!) periods.  We'll spend time around the fire hearing the stories from our journeys, their joys and sorrows, highs and lows.  During the day we'll walk out on a personal medicine walk, spending the short daylight hours wandering and exploring the footpaths and holloways of our beautiful valley. Some may wish to extend this into a personal night vigil on the land, or stay indoors to help create a ritual space for reflection and meditation where we can honour ourselves, those dear to us and each other. A weekend of honouring who we are, of peace and tranquillity, of hibernation and gentle nurturing. Maybe this will be a step towards our truth.

Cost £130 per person.

“A great balance of solitude in nature and group rituals.  Very well run.  This is an ideal way to experience wilderness in a supported way”.  Aidan Dunsdon – previous participant

“A truly memorable and great experience for me, as a 62 year old woman”.  Pammy Michell – previous participant

Bards of the Heath are a Suffolk-based seven-piece group of musicians (and pagans) and we have just released our CD full of magical, mysterious, folky, esoteric material entitled 'Moonpathways'.
Our self-penned songs have themes such as Lady Elen, Roslin Castle and The Witches Familial Things, whilst a listen might lead you to The Werewolf, The Russet Lady or a Kindred Spirit..... Guitar, melodeon, mandolin, fiddle, recorder, bodhran, djembe & bass weave some magical tunes behind the thoughtful lyrics.
At just £5 this CD is available from www.johngoodluck.webs.com via paypal
Visit Bards of the Heath on Facebook to see & hear more (a link is on the Bards page of the above site).

NPN Avebury trip 2015

I have spoken to the coach company about a trip down to Avebury on Saturday the 11th July 2015. The price they have given me is:

16 Seat Coach = £360 - Cost per Person = £22.50

Unfortunately they no longer do a 28 Seater for long distance trips

Last time we paid £17.50 each so i don't think £22.50 is to bad.

If you would like to come please let me know ASAP as places are limited.

Blessings
Sarah
