Hi All
Anita has suggested I circulate details of this Guardian article to our group. I am circulating this because it’s important when the Government plans to enable the construction of 1.5 million new homes, significant numbers of which will be in Derbyshire.. The article has a link to Greencore’ Ltd's building projects. This SMALL building company has a commitment to building better than Passivhaus standard homes to achieve zero carbon emissions in use for the lifetime of the building. Their website details the homes they have built and plan to build.
Greencore have developed a system of partial off site construction. They have developed a ‘Biond’ building panel made of hemp, lime and wood waste with very low embodied carbon and high insulation and breathability. This system has been tested by University of Bath and the LABC and given LABC certification see this link for technical detail;
We have been able to build homes to zero carbon standards since the 1970s yet we continue to accept very sub optimal building standards including energy inefficiency in new build homes from the BIG housebuilders who are focused purely on profit maximisation rather than sustainability.
Perhaps we should be forwarding this to our Councillors and asking them to bring this to the attention of their planning officers.
Karl
