The tracker aims to support
policymakers, industry
and local leaders to
better understand the
progress and stumbling
blocks of heat pump
deployment.
This month the data indicates that
growth in retrofit is
stalling. Incomplete
data for Q1 indicates
that that this will be
lower than Q4 last year,
which is already 5%
lower than the peak seen
in Q1 last year.
There are some tentative signs for
optimism with a spike in
applications to the
Boiler Upgrade Scheme
seen in March, which may
lead to growth in
installations into April
and May. This would
align with reports from
installers of increased
consumer interest in
moving away from gas in
response to recent
international energy
market uncertainty.
For new-builds we see a continued steady
rise to the proportion
of homes being built
with heat pumps across
England, Wales and
Scotland, with more than
one in five new homes
having a heat pump in
all nations, which has
been sustained since Q3
last year.
Interestingly, our tracker shows
striking variation
between the regions of
England, with the
highest proportion being
four times that of the
lowest.
