I called in at Pinkys (Moore St, Normanton - https://www.dbpsltd.com/building-supplies/3699348) and asked the bloke what to order.
MoT type 1 - 3 tons at £55 for a total cost of £165 delivered

He asked if the grass was solid, and if so, he would drive up and tip it onto the site ie no loading and hauling from the gate. He has delivered loose and bagged material to my home in the past, and his lorry would easily go up the side of the stables.

For the concrete, he says we need 2 tons (£60) of ballast totalling at £120 and 16 bags (£7) of cement at £112 to give a 5:1 mix. ie £232 for the concrete materials. The cement would be dry enough stored in the open stable under a tarpaulin.

We need to investigate the hiring of the whacker for the hardcore and the mixer for the concrete.

Their aggregate (MoT1 or concreting ballast) is bagged and costs £72 per ton bag.  This is more expensive and also requires unloading from bags and barrowing across from the gate.

Travis Perkins is slightly cheaper than Harlows for the 18 mm shutter board (8'x4') £31.16 against £34.
https://www.travisperkins.co.uk/search/?text=shuttering%20plywood&facets%5Bthickness%5D%5B0%5D%5Bvalue%5D=18%20mm
The delivery is £30 per order or free above £150. Not sure how quick as the last lot of wood I had from Harlows was a vague delivery time, which is OK at my house but more awkward at the Grange.

Summary
I propose we order the 3 tons of MoT1 from Pinkys for next Thursday. I'll remove some more dirt from the front of the hole and supervise him to tip the load in a pile at the front-centre (on Wednesday or Thursday) so we can spread it next Friday afternoon. (£165).

I propose we order two 8'x4' sheets of shuttering from Travis Perkins to cut up into smaller widths on site. I can add my own timber needs to help split the delivery cost. (£62.32 plus delivery). Harlows has the same £30 delivery charge as T-P.

Can I proceed to order these and recover the costs from the Maker's funds later?

We can discuss hiring the whacker and mixer on Friday.
We can discuss ordering the ballast and cement from Pinky's when we're ready (Pinky's usually delivers the next day).
The mixer will require an electric supply and water.
We should also compare the cost of the concrete materials and mixer to a ready-mix delivery.

Bill,

This is good information. I think we should press on as quickly as we can given that the weather is in our favour at the moment. We are not going to get more favourable prices and we need the materials so my vote is to press on. I think we need agreement from Brendan as the treasurer but pending that, expenses can be recovered from group funds.

So:

MoT from Pinkys, delivered by next weekend.
Shuttering material from Harlows or T-P for next weekend.
Wacker to be arranged
Ballast & Cement once we are ready.

Do we need to check with Jan if we are running trucks across the grass?

Great job

I am not available Wed or Thur until mid afternoon. I don't think I have any plans for Friday.

Hi

Good work Bill.  I'm happy with these proposals :-)

I strongly recommend a ready mixed approach, even if it's a bit more expensive - but we'd need to be sure the lorry could get across the field to put the mix straight in to the base.

Sadly I'm not free at the mo to participate, but it's great to hear that good progress is being made

For a broad idea of pricing for tool hire I had a look at Speedy. I
haven't checked local branch availability and it was doing some odd
redirecting between trade and DIY. Not sure whether we want a 'plate
compactor' or 'trench rammer', or whether the tamper is needed for
something as small as our job. They do deliver.

I presume we have considered putting the shed on pads of concrete with a slab on top of each pad and only casting a plinth at the shed entrance? This would deal with excess rain not slowly soaking into the floor of the shed and give the wildlife some hiding space under the shed.
