Overview
We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual to join our
fast-developing start-up, Volar Investment, who is a software
craftsman who can do it all. Ideal candidate would be a self starter,
thrive in challenging environments and interested in learning leading
edge technologies and management and development of our end-to-end
online software system.

We are looking for a Ruby on Rails (RoR), Javascript, HAML, and MySQL
Ninja who can work closely with the CEO and Chief Architect to and
manage the overall development of the platform. We want someone who
“owns” the software and takes pride in the design, development and
operation of the system.

This role also bridges the Lead Development and Project Management
spheres – as a core responsibility will be to manage both internal (US
based) and external (Offshore) development activities. In this role,
you will be a lead coder as well as the chief assembler and craftsman.

Ultimately, you are responsible for all aspects of Software
Development Life Cycle (SDLC) including presentation layer development
(including all front-end technologies), middle-tier management (web
services, processing activities, and system jobs), and database
management and design. We want an “I can do it all” hotshot, who is
proud of the work they create.

Responsibilities
Full SDLC Management (Feature Driven Development, Test Driven
Development, Agile/Scrum/XP).
Run and part own a world class real estate information website.
Manage and build a team of coders, system operators and system
administrators.
Work in a fast-paced start up environment.
Be a good problem solver, and quick solution provider.
Be self motivated and passionate about the code you write.
Teamplay w/ CEO and Chief Architect on:
Site Architecture
Product Development
System Capacity Planning / Scalability
Manage Develop Team
Make Recommendations to the System

Experience
At least 4+ years experience with hand-coding DHTML, JavaScript, CSS
and Flash
At least 2+ years experience using Ruby on Rails, Django, Spring,
Struts or other frameworks
At least 2+ years experience using relational databases in production
applications
Ability to build a complete site/software platform from code to
graphics;
Experience in software development, cloud computing and Web 2.0
Need to be experienced in BOTH front-end and back-end development
Degree in CS/EE
Experience creating/working SAAS or Subscription Software greatly
preferred
Expertise with modern web frameworks: RoR, Struts, Spring, Django, App
Engine, etc
Experience with building applications that scale (memcache, data
replication, etc.)
At least one example of taking an idea from concept to completion, web
application preferred

MySQL database design and maintenance
Amazon EC2 and S3 hosting environments
Experience building web crawlers with WWW::Mechanize, Webrat, Hpricot,
Nokogiri, etc
Experience consuming and building SOAP, XMLRPC and REST-based web
services
User-centric/persona-driven software design
Experience building sleek, easy to use, light Web UIs
Experience with agile practices, test-driven development and short
iteration cycles
iPhone application development general understanding
Expertise developing and testing across multiple browsers
Experience with content management systems (CMS)
Experience with Analytics Solutions (Omniture, Google Analytics,
MixPanel).
Image production techniques (Photoshop, Fireworks or Image Ready).
Experience developing accessible web applications
Ability to accurately estimate and scope developmental work

Education
BS in Computer Science or Equivalent
