Hello -

I know it was a little bit of a non-sequitor for the Derailed group,
but I really enjoyed putting on the presentation about electronics and
the Arduino. If it wouldn't derail the group too much, I'd be happy to
go into a little more detail on the programming side in another
session.

Here is a PDF version of the slides

And here are all the circuit design files - I used the most excellent
Fritzing application (http://fritzing.org/) to create the schematics
and breadboard diagrams.

I also promised to send some links to background information in case
anyone wants to learn more about electronics:

In addition to making it incredibly easy to get started with
microcontrollers, the Arduino team also produces excellent
documentation: http://arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/HomePage - we should all
strive to make our work as accessible to beginners.

Khan Academy has a good primer on circuits, if you don't really have
any background in electronics: http://www.khanacademy.org/video/circuits--part-1?playlist=Physics

TronixStuff has a very involved tutorial for Arduino applications that
I've leveraged a lot: http://tronixstuff.wordpress.com/tutorials/

To get started, I would recommend getting some sensors and components
in order to build something interesting. This is a good place to
start: http://www.amazon.com/CanaKit-Arduino-Professional-Kit/dp/B004FWUAX6/ref=pd_sbs_t_5

Thanks for the opportunity to speak!

Thanks Cameron! I've really enjoyed the intro to EE and the
presentation.

Took me back to my high school day's with my shop's teacher with
missing fingers that tirelessly repeated
"Don't fuck around with the circular saw!"

Anyway loved it and would like to see more...

Happy 4th to all!

Cool stuff, you were also going to give some links to your suppliers. :)

Sure, I'll be happy to give a few links.

I've gotten basic tools and hardware from Amazon, Radio Shack, or
Microcenter.

For shields and high-level prototyping bits, both SparkFun and
AdaFruit have a good selection of shields (functional pieces the snap
onto the Arduino prototyping board):

For ICs, components or sensors, Jameco and DigiKey are two of the
major vendors. I'd say that DigiKey has about everything but they are
as 'newbie-friendly' as the Jameco site.

Cheers!

Here's a bunch of my links to component vendors:
