BuildTurbofan engine with restoration_kamasutra. Are there any kits that you can buy to build a working engine? yes. The engine is a lot like the brain of a car. It holds all the power necessary to help your car function. And without it, your car would be nothing. But there are multiple car engine types out there on the road. You're not going to get very far without a working engine. Car enthusiasts of all ages will enjoy this car model kit that reproduces the realistic Racing Engine in meticulous detail on a breathtaking scale. Put together sleek panels like an expert mechanic and uncover more than 200 shiny parts! Build your own Engine Kit for adults. I build REAL V8 ENGINE with Restoration Kamasutra.

Build your own engine overhaul set is an awesome toy the engine is fun to take apart and put back together with the supplied tool set. The engine can be completely dismantled. This 14 piece set includes engine base, parts, pistons, key, spark plugs, screws, screwdriver and wrench. The screws are big and easy to use. Turn the crank and pistons pump up and down like a real engine. Also, some of the engine lights up and makes realistic engine sounds. Comes alive with sounds, lights and real moving pistons when assembled.

With the Mini horizontal, I added the new engine oil. Very carefully. The Mini has a stupid little dipstick, very difficult to read. So I poured in 3 litres, waited 15 minutes, checked the dipstick and added a quarter litre till I had reached the maximum level at the dipstick.

This got me access to the coils and the spark plugs. Notice the engine oil filler cap. It is very easy to leave the cap off whilst you are still adding quarts of oil. But if you accidentally drop anything in the engine, that will be a disaster. Make it part of your routine to never leave the cap off! Add oil and re-install the cap.

With the coils removed you have access to the spark plugs. Deep inside these plug holes. It is good practice to make sure all dirt and grime is cleaned off the top and blow some compressed air into the holes before removing the spark plugs.

This was New Year's Day, so all the shops were closed. So I decided to press ahead and do the other jobs first. I pressed on with the suspected leak on the newly installed thermostat housing. My initial thoughts had been that the bleed valve was damaged. I had tried to tighten it earlier, but I felt it was twisted. I had secured it with a bit of heat shrink.

With better access, I checked again. My conclusion was the bleed valve was not twisted, but just not tightened properly. I checked with the old thermostat housing. In the end, I managed to turn it almost 3/4 of a turn and it did not feel twisted, it locked properly.

Very nice one too, it has a built-in magnet to hold the spark plug. Much better than those sockets that have a built-in rubber ring that is supposed to hold the spark plug. My experience is those things don't last.

With the correct tool, it is very easy to remove the spark plugs. Just be careful to keep the socket completely perpendicular to the cylinder head. If you wobble too much, you might break the spark plug.

When fitting the new spark plugs make sure they screw in almost all the way, by just using your fingers. If it doesn't, more cleaning is in order. And of course, if there is one part that needs tightening with a torque wrench it is the spark plugs! (23Nm in this case)

Almost done. I have these two leak trays. I shove them underneath the engine when working on anything in the engine compartment. I have found it to be extremely useful. Anything that you drop and fall to the floor will be caught. Anything that drops off the engine and hits a concrete floor is never to be found again.

Reconnect the battery and go for a test run. When you start the first time, give the engine some time to build oil pressure. The Mini doesn't have an oil pressure gauge as such, but I just left the engine idle for about 20-25 seconds before I drove away.

It has more friction than a mini-V8, but I'm afraid that is inevitable. It all comes very precise. For the fake crankshaft I had to use mirrored cam-pairs, otherwise the sharp side of a cam piece would hit the piston under too much angle, which sometimes caused hick-ups. To make it run smoothly the pistons need a space of exactly the height of a flat plate, no more, no less. Also the end-stops of the 3L piston-axles are essential and the round sides of the bushes attached to the pistons need to face down.

when I was a child, all my technic models had a bigger square pistons and if they had a cam it would be similar to your pistons. I thought the mini where the smaller yellow pistons. its odd that the pistons are with no cylinder. transparent blocks do exist!!

It sure is! The fine-tuning is something you have to do with real pieces. Trying to really see why something is not working properly is the most fun. And then change it based on assumptions about the cause. Disappointment. And finally glory. Reminds me of modding the Porsche two years ago.

The "W" engines that VW, Audi, Bentley, and Bugatti use have four cams and one crank. When looking at the block from one of the ends, it looks like a V. The two cylinder heads are really wide though. These "W" engines are basically designed around two VR engines mounted together (The VR engines are very narrow 15 degree V engines used in many older VW vehicles. Despite cylinders/pistons being in a V configuration, the VR engines only have one cylinder head).

Bugatti did use "W18" engines that did have three banks of cylinders (three heads, three exhaust manifolds, three intakes, etc) in some of the '90s concept cars, but I don't think any made it to production.

I didn't intend to make something that replaces the piston-pyramid TLG will be incorporating, but maybe with some tweaks it could fit in . Then again, if the Bugatti will have a serious gearbox, I fear my engine has too much friction, but that could be a problem with the TLG version too.

I didn't take a close a look at that one before, but it looks really cool. One important difference is that @Lox Lego uses the drive axle (or crankshaft) to keep the engine block in place. Personally I would never use a drive axle to secure anything.

As a tech demonstration, researchers at GE recently built a miniature, backpack-sized jet engine that they made entirely from 3D-printed parts. And not just for looks, either. They were able to fire it up and get it moving to 33,000 rpms.

The engine was built over the course of several years, using a 3D printing technique that melted thin layers of metal powder one on top of each other to build each individual part of the engine. Once all the parts were manufactured, the engine was then assembled. The final product was about eight inches tall and a foot long.

"This is much more that a stunt," said Terry Wohlers, a 3D-printing analyst for Wohlers Associates. "It shows what's possible with additive manufacturing (AM) and 3D printing technology, especially for very demanding applications. GE Aviation will be producing tens of thousands of fuel nozzles by AM for its new-generation LEAP engine in the coming months and years. Airbus has also produced complex metal AM parts that have flown on the new A350."
