Subject: Apply now: Metro grants
To:
hise...@gmail.comDear friend:
The people who live and work in Northwest Portland are the best source of ideas about important public investments there. That’s why Metro solicits grant proposals from residents, local nonprofit organizations, schools, community groups and others who share closely linked goals that help us fulfill our promise to help create great communities, protect environmental health and support a strong economy as the region – and our neighborhoods - grow.
I invite you to apply to Metro for a community enhancement grant that benefits Northwest and North Portland and its residents.
The deadline to submit an application is 5 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2010. Approximately $105,000 is available for projects that benefit the neighborhoods of Forest Park, Linnton, Northwest District Association, Northwest Industrial Neighborhood Association, as well as Cathedral Park and the St. Johns Bridge. Please read the Applicant Information and Application for more details if you’re interested in applying (see attached) or visit Metro’s website (
www.oregonmetro.gov/grants).
If you need help with your application, sign up now for Metro’s free grant-writing workshop from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2010. The session is geared for first-time applicants and will include tips, practical advice, time to network with others and more. Get more details and reserve your place today by calling Kristin at
503-797-1834.
At this time, we are recruiting Linnton residents to fill a position on Metro’s grant selection committee. Current and past committee members have commented that their work, though limited in scope and time commitment, is challenging and very rewarding.
Over the years, Northwest Portlanders have generated some truly innovative solutions to respond to neighborhood needs – from the Constructing Hope pre-apprenticeship program in the building trades for African-American high school youth, to grocery shopping and delivery service for seniors and disabled people offered by Store to Door of Oregon. Even if you haven’t heard about these programs, chances are you or your neighbors have been touched by them.
For more information about Metro’s grant program or to learn more about serving on Metro’s grant selection committee, contact Karen Blauer
(503-797-1506 or
karen....@oregonmetro.gov).
Remember – your grant application is due to Metro by 5 p.m. Monday, November 9. I hope you will consider this opportunity and share this information with others who may be interested.
Sincerely,
Rex Burkholder, Metro Councilor (District 5)
Chair, Metro Central Enhancement Committee
