Hello all,
First off, I am very proud to announce that we have, based on the nominations your provided, selected our new executive board for 2013-14. Erica Binelli will be succeeding yours truly as President, Ally George will be our Vice President, and Arthur Wawryczek will become the Secretary upon his resumption of studies at DePaul. I hope you will all make them feel very welcome and give them your support. As far as the other exec positions which received no nominations, they will be working to fill them, so if you have an interest, let them know.
For the next few weeks, however, I am still Lord High Despot, uh, er, President, albeit a lame duck one. As such, I'm happy to announce that our next meeting, on May 7th from 6-7:30 PM, will feature Dr. H. Peter Steeves of our Philosophy department. He specializes in phenomenology, ethics, and philosophy of science. Steeves is the author of several books, including: Founding Community: A Phenomenological-Ethical Inquiry; The Things Themselves: Phenomenology and the Return to the Everyday; Animal Others: On Ethics, Ontology, and Animal Life.; and the forthcoming Being and Showtime: Philosophy, Identity, and Performativity.
He will be speaking to us on Post-Theism, a branch of thought that attempts to examine Christianity historically, separating it from its possibly illegitimate associations with metaphysics and the theological. You can read more in the attached flyer.
I hope to see everyone at the event, and best of luck on midterms!
Best,
Andrew
