Dear Fellows,

If you're waking up this Monday morning as I am -- with increased urgency to work towards a better world -- please give Katie's note (pasted below) another read.

The Public Voices Fellowship has prepared you for this moment, and we desperately need your voices, stories, and expertise.  When you're ready, so are we.

For the next month, we are waiving the fees for our upcoming live 45-minute “Ask a Journalist” sessions. Every Thursday at 5:00 pm EST, a Master Editor reviews and edits work submitted by members of the community and answers your questions in real-time. Use the code 2022AAJROE when registering.

We know this transformational work can’t be done alone.  Do you know someone who would benefit from a scholarship to our core “Write To Change The World” workshop ($450 value)? Please tell them that you believe in their story. Remind them how much their voice matters, and invite them to apply for a scholarship here.

If there's another way our team can support you, please email me directly at ash...@theopedproject.org.

Warmly,
Ashley

Dear Friends,

This morning’s Supreme Court decision leaves many of us without words. Words to express our grief, rage, fear, and heartbreak.

One of our core beliefs at The OpEd Project is that the story we tell becomes the world we live in. During a time when the world seems unrecognizable, we draw hope and inspiration from this community. We want to live in the world of your stories.

Stories of freedom and justice. The stories you’ve been telling:

“For too long, a small minority of conservative elected officials have dictated the conversation about reproductive health. But a broader lens would change this by highlighting the breadth of reproductive issues and how they are impacted by race, class and gender.” - Elizabeth Ziff, Reproductive Health Care is a Human Right

“Before you were born, Zahra, I had a choice. I had a choice to become pregnant with you. I had a choice to give birth to you as safely as possible. I had a choice to raise you with dignity and in a safe environment. But these choices have been and are being stripped away from so many others.” - Christine James, A Letter to My 7-Month Old Daughter

“Women must have reproductive autonomy and privacy. Attacks on women’s reproductive autonomy are a form of misogyny. Often attacks on abortion come from conservative political and religious factions that are against the advancement of women.” - Cynthia Farina, I am pro-life — and I support Roe v. Wade

For those who are struggling to find the words for this moment, know that you are not alone. Take care of your heart. Restore yourself for the long fight ahead.

If you are ready to share—scream—your story, The OpEd Project team is here to amplify it. Let us help you get your ideas into the world.

To achieve our vision of a radically inclusive society, we need to accelerate the ideas and impact of underrepresented thinkers. Do you know someone who would benefit from a scholarship to our core “Write To Change The World” workshop ($450 value)? Please tell them that you believe in their story. Remind them how much their voice matters, and invite them to apply for a scholarship here.

In solidarity,

Katie Orenstein, CEO
