NodeDisplayProperty.Size versus NodePreferenceIds.NodeSize

I've been looking into some of the Node rendering properties, and I'm stuck on
the odd interaction between NodeDisplayProperty.Size and
ModePreferenceIds.NodeSize. These two classes seem to define related behaviors.
In fact, NPI.NodeSize appears to translate NDP.Size instances based on enum
instance identity, not via any methods from either class. Additionally, I note
that NDP.Size.getSize() does not appear to be called from any DepAn code.

Is NDP.Size a dead-end?
