"Talking to the older parishioners is fine but let  us meet them on the playing field"  I find as a 64 years old  that your remarks are very offensive..  Do you want to put us out to pasture?  I feel looking at our parish that we older ones are covering the practical load  such at liturgy, eucharistic ministers lunches  wether they be for funerals or something nicer, cleaning, snow removal secretarial  duties  et al
Nice to be on line blowing your own horn but look behind the scenes and see all the other workers regardless of their age or computer skills.

Nanbaye,

My comments were not meant to be offensive and I apologize if it came across that way. This is supposed to be a forum to make suggestions for the Deoweb and that is what my intention is; not to toot my own horn. I have been involved with my parish for 43 years and know all too well the contribution of the baby boom generation. But in case you haven’t noticed, there is a lack of young parishioners to take up the duties passed on by your generation. I am not saying that we should put the older parishioners out to pasture; in fact, I believe that they are needed more than ever to act as mentors for the younger ministers. There is a huge gap between the older and younger parishioners which threatens the very existence of our church; a church that I want to be around for my children and their children. There is also a huge gap between our churches and catholic school system which I feel needs to be addressed. In relation to the Deoweb, I was saying that to attract young parishioners, we must meet them where they are…the internet. I am on Parish Pastoral Council and I am the web site administrator for my parish; which means that I work with all the ministries in the parish. I know the people in the CWL, Knights of Columbus, Adult and Funeral Choirs, Liturgy and so on. Our church is attracting many young families through the children’s liturgy program which is breathing life back into our congregation. I have witnessed for many years the same people performing in the different ministries, but with no program to recruit new blood into these arms of the church, they die. The older people in our church act as mentors for the young and inspire them to do good throughout the community. Last night, my son who is 9 served on Holy Thursday with people ranging in age from 18 to 75; an experience he will never forget.

Please, do not stop the work that you are doing, it is the Lord’s work and it is appreciated; I appreciate it. We need people of all ages to minister to God. I see the Deoweb as a great tool to reach out to the younger generation.

Paul

Perhaps another good discussion thread on this list would be how
DeoWeb i.e. Internet communications can be beneficial to retired
persons and seniors and how it can't.

If you are interested in that topic, please start a new discussion by
emailing deoweb...@googlegroups.com with a relevant subject line.

Some of you might be interested in a blog I came across recently,
written by a member of the COABC club, otherwise know as "Came of Age
Before Computers" (not my terminology).

Here is how she describes it:

Feeling disconnected by new communication technologies? Those of us
who are COABC's -- people who came of age before computers -- often
have an ambivalent relationship to these tools -- which seem to
complicate rather than simplify our lives. Nancy Strider promotes the
attitude of "take what you want and leave the rest".
