I'll get the ball rolling:
My name is Gerry Kirk, I live in Sault Ste. Marie (born just outside
the Sault) and go to St. Gerard Majella parish. My wife Rowena and I
have 3 kids, including 2 newborn twins who keep us hopping! I'm 35,
love to play ultimate frisbee and care a lot about social justice
issues.
I work for Faith Online, the company behind DeoWeb. I'm excited to put
my talents to work to try and enable the Church, although it isn't an
easy road.
I started a blog a few months ago on faith, technology and
communications, which you can find at http://gerrykirk.wordpress.com

My husband, two daughters and I attend St. Kevin's Parish in Val
Therese (Sudbury's 'Valley'). Prior to living in Sudbury, we lived in
Durham Region and did the daily Greater Toronto Area commute to and
from work. Moving to Sudbury 3.5 years ago has allowed us to change
the quality of our family time together which has been a real gift.
As a family, we have some basic rules that we live by: work hard, have
fun, respect others and above all else, be true to the golden
rule..."'In everything do to others as you would have them do to
you..." (Mt 7:12).
In service to God and His family,
Laurie
God Bless

When Deo Web was first introduced to the Parish I took on the task
with enthusiasm, however that enthusiasm was soon replaced by
discouragement. There has not been any follow up to the intitial
training given in North Bay and concerns relayed to the Deoweb team
have never been addressed. As a result, the site for Holy Name of
Jesus has more or less stagnated.
I think the introduction of a forum such as this one will be a big
help for those that have been having difficulties with administering
the site for their Parish and also an excellent means of communication
among the Parishes. Gerry Kirk deserves a pat on the back and a big
thank you for having the foresight to bring it into being.

Some time back I received an email saying that if I wanted to be a
deoweb-user that I would have to subscribe to googlegroups.com. I did not
subscribe. Later, I received an email stating that you had subcribed me to
it and ever since have received many unsolicited emails. I am on dial-up
and do not have the time available to go through these emails.
Please unsubscribe me from these emails. Thank you.

I am a 69 year old widow (12 years now) and live in a senior's appartment
across the road from the Church where I am very involved. I assist Fr.

Executive Council as Spiritual Development person, am the D&P rep in the
parish, coordinate Children's Liturgy and Parish Care Team, am a Lector and
do the gardening during the summer months (among other things). My parish

Doreen: your message touched me so much. I am a recent widow(less then a year), my children live in B.C. and I am so busy with my other family.. my church one. Bulletin, secretarial, mass scheduling and intentions. Keeps me sane (or as least as any other 64 year old). Do feel sometimes that some deo web users feel that we should be put out to pasture, but I hang in there. Everyone, young or old, that loves our Dear Lord has something to contribute.
Thanks for your contribution

Yes you are right, there wasn't much follow-up in the North Bay area,
a difficult decision based on available resources at the time. I
recall having discussions within the DeoWeb team about it. It's a
good example of why going diocesan-wide right at the start was great
for building a bonfire of enthusiasm, but one that couldn't be
maintained.
We had also hoped to build grassroots support for DeoWeb, so that
people across the Diocese could help and support one another. That
hasn't happened, but I think now this discussion group has the
potential to develop that.
If anyone is interested in helping out more with DeoWeb, one of the
projects that has stagnated is building an online knowledgebase. You
can find it at http://support.diocesessm.org/documentation. We need
people to help with creating content, some of which already exists
but needs to be entered. A resource like that can go a long way to
helping people out without the dependency on the already stretched
DeoWeb Communications team. Please note that this site is separate
from the main system, and your log in will not work on the site. I
hope to integrate the two eventually. For now, you have to create a
new account should you want to add documentation.
Robert, please feel free to share your ideas and challenges with the
group. We're here to help.
Peace,
Gerry
Since my computer has been loaded with deoweb responders the last few days,
I thought I would add a few cents worth from the boonies. It has been good
to read everyone's comments, though time consuming, I don't expect this to
go on forever...and it is important. The internet can keep us gathered
together as the 'body of Christ".
I'm Mary Balfe from South Baymouth, Manitoulin Island. My husband and I are
retired grandparents of 2, with four grown sons. Presently I am on Parish
Council, and though not mandated, I completed the DOS program that expired
in Espanola in '98. We worship in Mindemoya, at Our Lady of Canada, about a
25 minute drive from home. It is the closest church to us.
Weekly, for the past three years my husband and I have joined with 7 other
folk across the island in a CLC (Christian Life Community). These
communities are world wide and have existed since the time of sodalities,
continuing to grow with the times, based in Ignatian Spirituality. We come
together to share our prayer, to discern how God is leading us, and to spend
social time together and to support one another in our spiritual and
temporal needs.
As Pat McColemann from Gore Bay mentioned (Hi Pat) ,we are served well by
the Jesuit community here. However the Deoweb keeps me in touch with the
greater Dioceses...we are not an island unto ourselves afterall!
I check in at least once a week to see what is happening. Most helpful have
been articles for parents to read regarding sacramental preparation. Yes, I
could search these out...but why reinvent the wheel? Why not become
familiar with the rest of the what the dioceses offers? We do our best to
prepare our children, and we do not have Catholic schools here to back us
up. I would expect that any of the outlying "mission" churches may feel the
same way.
Laurie Gagnon was patient enough with my meager computer skills, not having
had "the training" to lead me through the process to get photos on our site
and to place an article in the the events of deoweb for the Journey to
Bethlehem, an ecumenical endeavour in Advent that attracts 400-500+ on an
annual basis. (bus loads coming from the Sudbury area) Perhaps you saw
it????
You know, how our lives are busy..even when retired? And you know how it
seems that there is always the same people serving? Perhaps that means there
will always be a slim group using deoweb regularlyl. But what an eye opener,
for the young family who is asked to read or download an article from the
site in prepartion for the next sacramental meeting!! A whole world is
opened up to them (easily) that they didn't know existed. A world they can
access again and tell others about. So, I am with Paul, the 42 year old Dad.
The deoweb is only in it's infancy, a must for future communication to young
families.
Cost? so far there has been no figure given. Will it be $120.00 a year ($10
a month) or will it be more like $480.00 ($40 a month) or somewhere in
between? Should the cost be linked to the size of the parish giving a % of
its annual revenue? Time to go folks. I'll check in again tomorrow. Thanks
for your time.
Peace+
Mary and Tom

Anyway. I am Paul Labelle. Retired union executive. Retired early (55), five
years ago. Living in Sudbury with my spouse Linda. Linda is the Faith
Development and Evangelization Coordinator for the Diocese of Sault Ste.
Marie. You may have heard of her. She runs the Lay Apostolate Formation
program, amoung other things, for the diocese. We have four adult children,
three in the west (Alberta and BC) and one in southern Ontario.
I am currently the Social Justice Coordinator for the diocese (part-time,
volunteer). I am also a permanent deacon (20 years +) which has given us the
opportunity to minister in several parishes while living in another parish.
St. Kevin's, in Valley East north of Sudbury, was our original parish where
we were active for several years. While still living in the Valley we also
ministered at St. Paul's parish in Coniston (three years) and Holy Trinity
parish in Sudbury (five years) at the request of the Bishop. We recently
moved into the city (Sudbury) and now live in Our Lady of Hope parish.
Because of our responsibilities at the diocesan office we are not
specifically 'assigned' to Our Lady of Hope but are active in choir, (Linda)
and sacramental prep, (Paul) for the time being.
Other activities? Like to walk, travel (when time permits), and ride my
motorcycle ( 1981 Midnight Special) when weather permits.
Regards,
Paul
