Okay, I am really keen to try a social networking experiment as a
means to draw people in the pews (and at the altar) closer together.
I created a group in Facebook, and sent out invites to everyone who
has posted something in this discussion group. I was pleasantly
surprised to find Bill Kerr, Carol Baye and Barry Houley are already
Facebookers. You keeners! (grin)

I invite you to give this a try and see where it goes. You are
welcome to invite others to Facebook (of course) and to our DeoWeb
group in particular. Group features include a discussion board, photo
albums, a wall that people can post a short blurb and photos of all
the happy smiley people in the group, a nice personal touch.

If you didn't receive an invite but would like to join, let me know
or just sign up at www.facebook.com.

Cheers,
Gerry

Hi Gerry,

I received your invitation to Facebook today and joined. I should
have come here first as the question I posted at Facebook is answered
in this post.

I will post the URL for the Facebook group on the bulletin board at
Holy Name of Jesus in North Bay and will also send an invite to all my
friends and fellow brothers in the Knights of Columbus.
It will now take a concerted effort, by all those that sincerely wish
to bring the diocese closer together, to get the word out.

In His service,
Robert

Hey Robert,

I replied to your posting online (hopefully we won't duplicate too much more here!). We need to think about what kinds of groups we should set up. One group will not fit all. I've been thinking about setting up a group for my parish. You might want to try creating a parish group and a Knights group and invite people to one or both. There could also be groups on specific topics. I guess it is trying to find the balance between too many groups and being too broad in scope.

I think most people will not go through the effort of signing up without a personal e-invitation. Facebook has tools for you to send out invites, either to Facebook or to a specific group in Facebook. I found it very effective to upload my address book from gmail to find a lot of people I knew who are already on Facebook, and to invite a bunch more. So there is a good place for you to start! (grin)

Your enthusiasm is great, Robert. Let's see where this goes. Bill Murphy posted an interesting piece about youth and how some are attracted to evangelical churches because there they can talk about faith more easily and there are organized youth groups to be a part of.

See you on Facebook,
- Gerry
