Thisis something that would also be of value to us. Our preference would be for a 100% discount (we want the client to see how much of a freebe they are getting) although the ability to create zero value lines as well would be a bonus.
For one quickfile use we need to be able to issue an invoice to members who are honorary and so would have a perfectly correct and valid invoice cost of 0.00 as it is not they do not exist (which seems to be the quickfile view.)
Equally, there are other legitimate reasons for issuing an invoice for a zero amount eg. issue a replacement item under warranty (an invoice generating action but with no (zero) client cost,) transfer of inventory between locations, sending of items for review / inspection.
We do not need work-arounds as all they do is make for confusion unless the idea to get the number of ledger entries up?
Put full price, allow a 100% reduction - oops thats zero and not allowed.
Not as if it is a difficult feature to enact, just change validation from >0 to >=0.
On the back of this, would/could the same also be done for zero rated purchases? I have one supplier who invoices everything on one invoice then sends out back order/out of stock items later with 100% discounted invoices. Usually I just delete the back order invoices (when tagging via receipt hub) but it makes sense to have all the invoices logged against the supplier for audit purposes.
I would also find zero-value invoices very useful in various scenarios, for commercial but also for accounting reasons - these would keep the invoice numbering intact. Otherwise, one needs a separate sequence just for zero-value invoices (and you have to keep that separate to QuickFile, which is impractical if you prefer everything in one place).
Yes, we would also find this useful. Our customers purchase a service contract which might include 6 callouts over a year. When a callout is used from within the included allowance, it needs to be recorded as a zero invoice, and when they have used up their allowance and need further callouts they are invoiced at the usual rate. Without this feature we need 2 different processes for handling the in/out of allowance jobs.
The credit-note-after-invoice-approach makes little sense when the customer views their account online.
Additionally this would seem to be both simple to introduce and have no obvious downsides, so why not just do it?

That is not correct. The zero value is allowed and known to the program. It is just not displayed. I fail to see the issue here. A line item description with no unit cost or amount is clearly not being added to the total of a transaction.
There is nothing complicated about the request to display a 0 value when the user enters 0 for the unit price. Similar to @Mark and not like @sharpdrivetek where one would add a discount as the 0 value could be a real 0 value as in offering something completely free. The question remains why is it logical that if I enter 1 as value I can see 1 displayed but when I enter 0 it is not. No drama just requesting @Lubos and others here for a logical explanation rather than complicated workarounds that are just that.
If you want an easy real word example. In the non-profit organizations we support often items are at 0 value and these are not discounted. The items were given free of charge and given away. Record of such is kept in invoices as they easily link to stock. Receipts are 0 valued when leaving stock and so are payments when adding to stock. Not displaying the 0 value is thus a regrettable omission.

When typing 0 the display of it means zero value in numeric terms. Displaying nothing means there is an empty value that does not indicate anything. This is referred to as a null value and is different from 0-value.
We also have negative line items in some instances for example when using balance from a liability account to pay an invoice. We would add a line to the invoice with description and enter a negative value using a liability account which makes the invoice zero. This liability account may be a customer pre-payment amount.
A VAT invoice must show:an invoice number which is unique and follows on from the number of the previous invoice - if you spoil or cancel a serially numbered invoice, you must keep it to show to a VAT officer at your next VAT inspection

I am very knew to the AX community and I have a relatively simple question. I am consulting for a customer who is using AX on one side and I am integrating another operational system which dispenses invoices on the other. One of their requirements is that they need to book invoices that have a total value of zero. Currently the AX interface bounces these and I have been told by the group that has conditioned AX, that this is a facet inherent to AX and not due to any customization. This struck me as rather odd, so I was just looking for some third party opinions. Can AX book a zero value invoice?

I want to correct the VAT value of an earlier finished/processed POS transaction. An incorrect VAT code (100% VAT iso 15% VAT) was used on the POS transaction.
I want to issue a new invoice with the same inventory and same same sales price, but correct VAT code.
On the same transaction I want to credit the incorrect transaction at the incorrect VAT code. Therefore there will be no change to the inventory, and no change to the debtor's value. The value of the invoice is zero. The VAT value and the sales values will change and the VAT will be correctly included in the tax reports.

In this case the exhibitor had just completed a major job for his customer who was very happy, however, was now calling to have items fixed and adjustments made to things that were not part of the contract. The items in question were all inexpensive to fix and so the cost to sort them was more a matter of time. To charge for each individual item would have looked petty particularly in light of the large job just completed but they were dragging on.
My solution was to send an invoice showing the cost of the parts and time involved and then put in 'Less special discount' for the full amount leaving the total at zero. The purpose of this was to show the customer the real value of what they were getting and to remind them that there is a cost associated with these additional items.
Sage does not permit the posting of nil transactions. It displays a 'Warning. No transaction values entered' box, then invites you to put in a value. If you try posting without a value again the same box appears. I have whiled away hours doing this.
If this is the case I am sure there is a work around for this using the POP functionality however its nearly 10 years since I've used Sage line 50 and can't for the life of me think how we used to do this.
In the case of samples or goodwill gesture supplies it could be essential that a sales invoice is generated for stock control reasons where quantities on sales invoices are automated into the inventory system for stock control.
There are lot of problems associated with Appsheet when computing calculations like invoices return unwanted ZEROS when the quantity is zero. (If we can stop this zero appear in quantity field we can solve this issue but since it is a number field, we need it to be a number field to apply simple math formulas)
Tried many ways including taken sync with spreadsheet (googlesheet) but unfortunately this do not work in my app as still it gives those unwanted zeros.

If you have simple method or advice on to use the correct expression would be great help for all who have this simple problem.
When BK15 is zero there is no return value zero in goggle sheet but if use the same formulas in appsheet it gives all unwanted zero in computation and this is not what we want to appear in the invoice as it is not needed to show zero values for Totals.
BTW: I have also tried making 0;0;;@ numbering format in the appsheet number formatting and use that sync with appshet. There is no use still appsheet recognize zero value as zero and when multiply something with a zero value it gives zero values.

Yes you have correctly identified that QTY column in number type actually do not save data on spreadsheet not as zero but as BLANK.
So essentially if that is the case that we need to treat this field as blank but in number types.
You can use these to convert your numerical values to text with the desired amount of decimals, add currency symbols, apply conditional formating, etc.
It can look kinda ugly inside your template, but it gets the job done
