Just a guess, but you may not have the correct font installed. Your corel file may be looking for a particular named font and it isn't there, so Inkscape is substituting a default font that isn't suitable. Can you try clicking on a block of text with the text tool, and changing the font to a Hebrew font (I'm assuming you have something suitable installed on your system?)

I've never used Corel Draw, so can only guess, but the fact that everything else seems OK implies it's a font issue, complicated by the fact the document is looking for a Hebrew font (if it were a standard English font, it would likely still be readable, just not in the preferred font).

If these are important documents to you, I would suggest signing up to the 15 day free trial of corel draw from their website, export all the documents in as many useful formats you can think of before the trial runs out.

TY very much for your advice. I tried to save the file again in the trial version of coral draw. and it saved it as a new file, and that new file WORKS!
it somehow fixed the text issue. again ty very much! really helped me.

i have the exact same problem. so i'm tryting to install the trial version but it tells me "unfortunately you can try this version of the product only once" and i tried a different persons email address .

The problem looks like it's encoding. In modern files all text will be encoded as UTF8, which supports letters from all languages. But in older files, they will have specific encoding, for example latin-1 was the old latin encoding for european languages. If this is Hebrew text then it looks like this is IEC8859-8 _8859-8 but it's guessed to be latin-1, hence why the hebrew letters appear as latin ones.

The libcdr source code suggests that text encoding is detected if it isn't specified. So this must be the case that this is detected wrong. A custom version of libcdr could be built that only opens hebrew, for conversion. But it would probably be something you would pay a programmer to make for you.

Thanks soooooo much martin, yes corel has an option to open files with the coding u choose. so thats what i did i chose what you advised the 8859-8 and the words came out much better, 95% good some words lines didn't. (I found a link to copy those lines and it makes it back to hebrew _magic.php , for those few lines because it wouldn't be feasible to do the whole file)
