Community Gardens in 2018
Each year, we are consistently amazed at what our incredible network of community gardens achieves throughout the gardening season. Our gardens are a place for people to grow food, but also friendship, happiness and a sense of accomplishment.
Below, we are so proud to share how our network of community gardens has grown and what our gardeners accomplished in 2018:
- The DUG network grew to over 180 community gardens in the Denver Metro area!
- Approximately 649,390 pounds of food were grown in DUG community gardens.
- DUG gardeners are generous: approximately 10% of produce grown was donated to local hunger relief organizations, such as Fresh Food Connect, Project Angel Heart and The Weinberg Food Pantry.
- Through community gardens, over 25 acres of urban land have been preserved over six counties in the Denver Metro area.
- The DUG network of community gardeners has approximately 17,000 gardeners, with that network benefitting an additional 204,912 individuals.
