Presentation #1: SSRS 2008 R2 - What's New So Far
Find out what Microsoft has updated in the current beta of SQL Server
Reporting Services 2008 R2, which is due to be released in 2010. Many
new updates will be included in this release for Reporting Services
and many of them are already implemented in the current beta. This
presentation will be a demo of all the new features and comparison to
how things work now in SSRS 2008.

Presenter:
Steve Wake is a Senior Web Developer at Visa in the Member Processing
Solutions group. He is a Microsoft Certified Professional and
Microsoft Certified Applications Developer in .NET. He has worked at
Visa for 12 years and has been a computer programmer since high
school. He started working at Visa on creating and maintaining COBOL
reporting and billing applications for MVS and AS/400 systems. In the
last 6 years he has trained himself on ASP .NET and C# programming.
When the first version of Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services was
released as an add-on to SQL Server 2000 he saw the potential to move
most of the existing reporting at Visa to this platform. For the last
4+ years he has built ASP .NET applications that leverage Microsoft
SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services and is now being used as the
enterprise reporting platform at Visa. Steve Wake can be contacted at
swa...@gmail.com or sw...@visa.com and followed on Twitter
@stevewake. Steve also maintains a Business Intelligence focused blog
at http://blog.wakebi.com.

Presentation #2:
Many DBAs and Developers are faced with tuning poorly performing SQL
statements. However, many tuning projects fail because the process
being used is inefficient. This presentation will walk through a
process Confio Software uses with great success and will include
topics such as: SQL diagramming, wait time data, indexing strategies,
column selectivity and several more that will help the you succeed on
future tuning projects.

Presenter:
Janis Griffin has over 20 years of DBA experience including design,
development and implementation of many critical database applications.
Before coming to Confio, Janis held DBA positions primarily in the
Telecom Industry (15 yrs), working with both real-time network routing
databases and OLTP business to business applications.

Janis was also a Principal Architect and Senior Manager, mentoring
other DBAs on best practices in database performance tuning. She was
responsible for managing all aspects of the Voice Network databases
including short and long-term technical planning and strategic
alliances. As a highly successful liaison between management and
technical staff, Janis has proven to be an effective collaborator
implementing cutting-edge database solutions.
