This Month
Join on us this coming Thursday, June 18 for two more mesmerizing
presentations and good times at the next meeting of the SQL Server
User’s Group. This month we have Ed Tomlinson discussing SQL Server
and Enterprise 2.0 applications, while Marc Beacom introduces us to
Analysis Services. As usual, we will make time for question and
answer sessions, networking, and eating. Prizes will be awarded at
the conclusion of the meeting.
Coming Attractions
August: SQL Sentry on performance troubleshooting and tuning for SSAS.
Presentation #1: Introduction to Analysis Services
By now you have probably already heard about Analysis Services. Maybe
you've even said to yourself that you were going to learn more about
it but just haven't found the time. The biggest barrier to learning
something new is figuring out the first few steps. But where do you
begin? Come learn those first few steps by attending this user group
presentation. We will discuss what Analysis Services is, where it
shines and more importantly, how to get started.
Presenter:
Marc Beacom has worked in IT for several years wearing a variety of
hats: web development, network support and SQL Server development.
The last few years, Marc’s focus has been on developing and
implementing data warehouse and business intelligence solutions.
Prior to his IT career, he worked several years in the insurance
industry.
While not working, Marc volunteers for a number of different
organizations. He is currently President of the Denver SQL Server
User Group (
www.DenverSQL.org) and a board member on the Colorado
Springs SQL Server User Group (
www.SpringsSQL.org).

Presentation #2: SQL Server and Enterprise 2.0
Everyone's out to do things faster, cheaper, and better. My business
partner and I have over 20 years of experience consulting for various
industries and during that time we have used Microsoft products
extensively to develop and implement data warehouses and operational
applications. During my presentation I will share some of the
innovative things we've done using DDL, Metadata, and XML, not as data
but as intelligent instructions to meet those faster, cheaper, better
challenges. In addition, I will discuss our expanded use of Microsoft
and SQL Server capabilities as a framework for implementing Enterprise
2.0 applications, not only in terms of a corporate value proposition
but with emphasis on making life easier for SQL Server DBA's. In a
nutshell… I’m out to surprise you as Susan Boyle did to Simon Cowell,
but not by song.
Presenter:
Ed Tomlinson is a partner in Dataface, a Microsoft product focused
consulting firm. Dataface is a company of two people that takes a
technically centric approach to how they bring value to their clients,
which include companies such as Nissan, Wisconsin Public Service,
Flowserve, Triad Financial, FHP/Pacificare, Cisco Systems, Orange Cnty
Ca Gov, California Bank & Trust, and Arizona National Bank.. Ed’s
years of experience includes data warehousing and application
development, with an emphasis on Microsoft products.
