Friends,

The time has come/ The Walrus Said/ To talk of many things...

Folks, I have been thinking for some time now. About 4 months to be exact. We have had a lot of players drop out from our Larp. Each month we have to beg, borrow, or steal to get above 6 players. A few months ago, i thought to myself, "I'll give it a few months and see if the problem fixes itself." Unfortunately, it has gotten worse. I have recieved so many "It's not you, its me," emails that I feel like this Larp has broken up with me.

I had a great time running this game. Lots of great characters and great plots. If there was one thing I could change, other than lack of players, was the fact that the game only plays once a month. This is a combination complaint/advice/apology. Where I come from, there are like 2ish games that run once a week. Here there are 15 games that run once a month. No wonder I had trouble retaining players. Players (most, not all) around here seem to be looking for a game that is 75% run through emails between games. From my heart I appologise, but that is not what I signed up for. I dont have the energy for that. I need a game that runs once a week, or at the least once every other week. That keeps the energy going, and keeps people mind on THIS game. I think people around here play too many games not often enough. They are seeking a fix that they cannot get from only one game a month, but no game plays often enough to meet that need, so they write a charcter in 5 different games trying to get what they need. I feel that when people play in that many games, NO game is special. They are all just one noise in the din. At least that is how it has felt for me since I got into Colorado.

For those of you who's needs I could not meet: I appologise I couldnt give you what you needed. I have a 40+ hour a week job, a wife, 2 kids, and another hobby, not to mention the games I played in. This is meant to be a reason, not a cop out. I appreciate the time you gave me, and the time we spent together.

For those of you that enjoyed/ are still enjoying the Game: Thank you so much for your patronage. You have made this experience one that I will cherish. This was not my first, nor my last Larp; neither my best, nor my worst Larp; but it was one of my favorites, and that is all your fault. Players like you are why I keep coming back to Storytelling.

For my friends: It was a pleasure beyond words to serve you as I have throughout this. There are only one or two things I like better than Playing or Running a game for my friends. I have a request for you. If a new larp rises out of the ashes of this one, or has a lot of the same players, please please let me know. I had a great time with you guys. If there is anything I learned running game for you, it is how badly I would like to play game with you. Keep me close, even though I am so far away.

For those that hated me (you know who you are): Fuck you. Im awesome.

So without further adeu, Unless there is a mass uprising of many many players that need this game to keep going (enough to keep it going), I think it is time we called game for the finnal time. I would like to take this opporntunity for us to do 2 things. First, Kudos. Time to tell eachother how much we liked characters, how much we liked playstyles. If you were super crafty, remind us of that one time. If you tricked everyone, reveal how awesome you were. Tell eachother how much you love eachother. And the other, feel free to recommend other games people should play in, like Crusade of Legends, The Sabat game, the Anarch Game, or the Cam.

With much love,
-That One Storyteller.

I am sorry the game is ending, I truly enjoyed the game! I think it was well done. However my location and lack of transportation made it almost impossible for me to attend. I look forward to seeing people in other LARPS.

I greatly enjoyed this game. Thank you to Jewels for the web page, Leora for coordinating and housing us along with all the other hosts. Lesley for feeding us and housing us and offering a permanent location. Thank you Dan for running us, it is a very time intensive activity.

Thank you to all the players. I met some really cool people whom I had never rped with before and have over the year built some stronger friendships. And some folks I was blessed to rp again with. Truely it is one of the loves of my life sharing the creative mindscape that is RPing.

It was the first time I ever played a Changeling and I love the system and look forward to trying it again some time.

So although the game is Fin I am thankful for the memories and relationships that will last beyond its time.

Dan thank you for providing that opportunity and stage for exploration, it was for me at least very rewarding.

If my inability to host this month contributed to the end of this game, I am truly sorry. Had it been just a generic party night rather than a birthday party, I would not have canceled on you guys. I really did enjoy the game, the characters, the story, and everyone involved. This was my very first LARP (thanks to everyone who helped de-virginize me! :D) and made me realize that not everyone who LARPs is uptight about it - that I can in fact have fun LARPing, and hopefully will again in the future.

I loved my character so much, thank you Rion for helping me to build her, and for getting me involved in the game in the first place! In addition to meeting lots of fun new people, playing her was so much fun, and playing with all of you definitely kept me sharp and kept me on my toes.

Thank you everyone for accepting a noob like me, and not judging me too harshly (or at least not making fun of me to my face) when I asked stupid questions, forgot things I should have known, or didn't understand the basics. It is because of your kindness and openness that I changed my opinion of LARPing. I would gladly game with any and all of you in the future.

Much love to all of you,
Lesley

Sad to see it go. I do think your assessment of the one a month syndrome is correct, I have played in several other cities and those games ran much more often.

I disagree with the one month thing. This is my ONLY game and it's all I had time for. Still, it was fun Dan. Thank you sooooo much for running it. This game was different from many others I played and it was totally captivating.

Thanks for all your effort and the fun times and great memories. Don't be a stranger.

PS- I'm probably looking for an interesting once/month sat larp if anyone has any ideas.

It depends on the persons needs as far as LARPing goes. Some like one a month, and some like more than that. But the game was unique and fun! Thanks to everyone involved. i truly enjoyed playing Changling again.

This is exactly why I needed a herald. :P

Many of you have heard me saying I didn't enjoy playing Livia as much as I should have. Regrettably, that was just starting to change. I am delighted about the secrets I kept of hers, and I do believe I will continue to keep them. :) I hope another LARP game springs up because I love playing with you guys and I don't -get- to play with most of you in my other LARP.

Thanks for running the game, Dan. I know you tried really hard to make it interesting for everyone. At the beginning of all this you said your fear was that people would hate your game. I hope you can see now that there were many people who loved it.

Thanks Dan, first and foremost.  Having been a storyteller for well over a decade on and off, I know how being and ST is often a thankless job.  Rewarding in the extreme and often mind-numbingly frustrating, and good game or bad I think it takes a special kind of person to want to run a game and stick with it.  So kudos to you for stepping up and telling us a story, even for a short period of time.

As for the copious amounts of email you got, I think I am at least one of the people to blame for that as for nearly 20 years, a handful of LARPS here in Denver were ran with the idea of meeting once a month with a vigorous and robust in between game email presence.  It is kind of the way things have been done within one part of the LARP community here in town.

Either way, I think you did a fine job and I enjoyed the experience even though my attendance was spotty there at the end, my apologies.

Lance -

You are, of course, welcome to come by and get your things. I do not recall seeing the mug strap, but I will definitely look for it.

Evenings and weekends are going to be the most likely time you'll find someone at home, just let me know when you'd like to come by and I'll let you know if for some reason no one is going to be home that day.

Thanks!
