Hey everyone. The time has come to discuss the August Cute Idea of the Month. The last few months have had some wonderful Experiences. We had a potluck, an XP for ALL day, and a Massage Therapist. Life is good. Lets keep the wonderfull ideas rolling. Keep in mind that participating in the CIotM is worth XP, but also, so is coming up with the IDEA!!! Thats right. Make a suggestion, and if it is the one we go with, than you get some XP to fuel your evil plots and assendancy to City Domination! So lets hear those ideas.

Maybe something like the Orient. Constantinople was known as one of the biggest trade cities of its time. Most of the characters are from Europe etc. It might be cool to represent the Asian community with something like, incense, spices, haiku, kimonos, chai tea, traditional music, etc.

We can do that. That being said, trade with the orient didnt begin till the 14th century. Marco Polo did not return from his trip till 1295.... The orient isnt big yet..... We can suspend history if it would please people though. I like kimono's as much as the next guy, but i dont know how tasgall will find one that fits....

Neither will Grapthar. I mean the Orientals are notoriously short, but
not that short. :D

It's okay though, I'll just bring the Opium and Tasgal and I can
pretend we have on Komonos.

Trade with the Orient actually stretched as far back as about 200 BCE via the Silk Road. While Constantinople wasn't directly connected to that particular network of routes, they did trade with several cities which were along it, so it's not entirely inconceivable that there would be some exposure. Actually, the Silk Road - which closed when China became unstable - reopened when the Mongols took over, providing enough stability for merchant caravans to be willing to use it again. That was right around the begining of the 13th century, meaning there was probably a resurgence of trade goods at the time peroid of the game - which almost certainly would have gone along with a resurgence in popularity and usage as status symbols.

Historically speaking, Japan wasn't part of the Silk Road (though they also traded with locations that were), so things like kimonos would have been markedly unlikely to make it all the way to Constantinople. Items from India and China would be a lot more likely, things like silk (obviously), gold, wooden carvings, iron sculptures, laquered items, jade, and of course spices, would be far more likely to have made their way to our fair city.

That said, I don't know if anyone really cares about the historical accuracy of it all, or if I'm just OCD. :)

Side note: the biggest inflence on the City at this time would actually be Venice. If we do the Orient this month, I'd love to see Venice come around as the theme sometime in the future too.

So is Kimono's the thing? Is there some way we can develpoe this more. I mean the CI is supposed to make prople go home saying, "Wow, that was awesome." Kimono's is nice, but is there something more we can do to make it really special?

Not to mention, I neither own, nor do I intend to wear a kimono, regardless of the outpourings of "But, Kimono's were actually a guy thing too back in the day."  Don't own one, ain't buying one, not wearing one.

So...Oriental then :)

I would stick with Oriental, as yes I do not have a kimono either but I can get some cool incense or could brew some tasty chi tea.. Hence well it was my original suggestion :D.
I was thinking for Tasgal I could change the makeup a little and maybe tweak the wig. Perhaps the ST could bring in a KOE as an NPC for flavor. If people have Kimono's then that is cool. Maybe someone can bring in a traditional Chinese mix, to play at the location maybe.  Perhaps folks culinary inclined could make some tasty treats.  Just some ideas.

Does anyone know how to do a traditional tea ceremony? That would be pretty cool. If the Changelings host, we could have an "opium room" aka welcome to becoming enchanted.

I don't know if the site we get would be cool with it but maybe have a hooka with flavored tobaccos.

If there isn't an antagonist where we fight them perhaps we have a Martial art sparing, and do some in game gambling on it.

These are just some ideas. I'm not tied to any of them.
