Dumbells focus more on the pecs and arms.

bench presses are for really huge muscles and dumbbells are for that too, but they tone you up simpler and quicker. truth is, barbell bench presses barely help you unless you by now have really huge muscles. you want it to be challenging but not too challenging. just make sure it doesn’t feel like your picking up a piece of paper.

The full ROM for the dumbbell bench isn’t necessarily an advantage — it’s possible to go too far down and get injured. It does allow you to have your shoulder in a safer spot but because of how you can face your palms. The barbell bench press is the gold ordinary for high-body strength these days, so it can’t be ignored. It’s the high body lift that allows
you to lift as much weight as possible through its full ROM. If I had to only pick one, I’d pick the barbell. You can also pick finer grained weight on it, meaning you can go from 245 to 250 to 255, but with the dumbbell you usually have to go 95 to 100 to 105, which is 5 more per hand. You can buy platemates to remedy this though. I do both though, and tend to focus on one for a few months and
then switch.

I like DBs better because I don’t have to use a spotter, and I am wondering what my bench press would probably be on a BB. I can do a pair of 85 lb DBs for 10 reps.

Yes you can.I could do about 80s for 2 reps and my max on the flat is 220.Your max will be close to 280-300 lbs on the barbell with spotter.
Try to do it in the next chest week.I have only been benching for about 3 weeks now and i hit the 220 mark the very first day and i have never benched before in my life and i was doing dumbbell press.I say ur max would be 300.Go for it.
