I'm a student and find that PSpice 9.2 does not run well on XP/Server2003/Vista. Simulations do not keep their settings between runs, due to a "MarkerServer" error. I realize that PSpice 9.2 is no longer supported, but product is nearly useless on current OS's.

PSpice is a critical application for students. The real Cadence 16.2 is way too expensive for a student & the Demo version is too crippled. There's always NI's MultiSim, but my university uses PSpice. What is the solution to this dilemma? Install Win98 on some old PC?

If you are interested in OrCAD products, you need to contact the Cadence Channel Partner for the USA (EMA Design Automation www.ema-eda.com) and ask about the academic support programs. There are a variety of options to support tutors and students with up to date, and supported, products. (OrCAD 9.1 was around from September 1999 to September 2000 so I doubt that Windows 10 would be a suitable environment and, obviously, no longer supported) Since it's Thanksgiving this weekend, you may not get a response / be able to contact them before next week.

Electronics and engineers are at the forefront of technology. Keeping up with the pace of change and innovation while laying a solid foundation for your students can often seem like a daunting challenge. Let us help you provide your students they tools they need to be successful in their studies and their careers so you can focus on inspiring the next generation of innovators.

I was looking into getting Pspice for one of my classes at school. I found a few websites that claimed to offer a free download of the student version but none looked reliable. Does anyone know a reliable website to download Pspice from?

PSpice Student is an analog circuit simulator that was specially designed for Electrical Engineering students in need of simulating circuits and of solving circuits-related calculations. If you find yourself in the posture of not understanding a bit of what your professor is teaching you in Circuit Theory class, then you should definitely try this software.

PSpice was released in January 1984 and was the first version of UC Berkeley SPICE available on an IBM Personal Computer. PSpice later included a waveform viewer and analyzer program called Probe. Subsequent versions improved on performance and moved to DEC/VAX minicomputers, Sun workstations, Apple Macintosh, and Microsoft Windows. Version 3.06 was released in 1988, and had a "Student Version" available which would allow a maximum of up to ten transistors to be inserted. PSpice (even the student version) increases the students' abilities to understand the behavior of electronic components and circuits.[24][25]

The PSpice model you are using is encrypted and can only be used in PSpice version 15.7 or higher. The free student version cannot understand the encrypted PSpice .lib file. We do have a free circuit simulator (TINA-TI) that you could use as well and we could provide you the TINA model for the device.

The Student Version of PSpice is intended for use by college students and professors who are interested in learning about analog and mixed-signal simulation. It is not intended to demonstrate the capabilities of any product other than PSpice. Because it is distributed freely, certain limitations have been imposed on the libraries and functionality. If you are interested in obtaining a fully functional version of PSpice, contact Orcad Sales at 1-800-671-9505. (International customers may call 1-503-671-9500.)

The James Watt School of Engineering is proud to be using Cadence Orcad for their Electronics Engineering courses. It is important to equip the students with industry leading software so they can have the best tool experience.

The OrCAD student program provides validated students with an educational OrCAD license for free. Students can use OrCAD to design circuit diagrams (schematic), printed circuit designs (PCB), run analog and digital simulations using PSpice and validate signal integrity using Signal Explorer.

To apply for a free student license you have to fill out the student form below and use an email address from your university (i.e. john....@sample-university.edu). Private emails or free email accounts will be rejected.

The popularity of the SPICE circuit simulator has translated into various offerings, suited for different compute platforms. SPICE3, the latest Berkeley offering. It has the advantage of being freely available, to support a wide variety of models, and to run on all UNIX platforms. It is downloadable.HSPICE (from Avant!) offers a more robust, commercial version of SPICE. No free copies here. If interested, contact Avant!. PSPICE. This popular version of SPICE, available from Orcad (now Cadence) runs under the PC and Macintosh platforms. An evaluation version, which can handle small circuits with up to 10 transistors, is freely available. For a full fledged version or for more information, please contact Orcad. AIM-spice is a pc-version of SPICE with a revised user interface, simulation control, and with extra models. A student version can be downloaded. A complete list of all SPICE offerings (and software downloads for a wide range of platforms). MAGIC MAGIC is an interactive layout editor supporting on-line design rule checking and circuit extraction. It was developed by the group of John Ousterhout at the University of California at Berkeley. Click here to obtain a postscript version of the MAGIC tutorials (513851 Byte - tar format - compressed). Magic is downloadable. Versions for a variety of platforms can also be downloaded from the Digital Equipment Corporation MAGIC home page . You can also download the flea program (used in the software labs for the printing of the layouts). Observe that the latter has only been ported to the SUN platform. Another plot program, called MagicPlot is available from Yale A newer, more modern version of MAGIC is available from a company called MicroMagic.Check their Web-page for up-to-date information on their layout program, called MAX,which runs under SUN Solaris and LINUX.

Welcome to all of the new ECE undergraduates students at the school of engineering! I am very excited to be teaching EE2013, Fundamentals of Electric Circuits I, a very important core course in ECE, and I look forward to having you in class!
This course is the fundamental core course for all degrees in ECE, and you must master this material to succeed in your undergraduates studies, in research, and in life. I encourage students to buy the book early, and begin reading the book (8th edition US edition) *before* our first day of class. I will hold weekly office hours, we will work lots of problems, and if needed we will hold extra office hours, and we will have TAs to help everyone master the material, but you will have to work hard. This is a challenging and rigorous class; it is also required class for your program. Come prepared to work and to learn this wonderful field!
