Description
Probability and Statistics usually gives students problems in the beginning because all of the problems are word problems that require the student to read and truly comprehend what is being asked before any solution can be attempted. This DVD tutorial lends help in probability and statistics just as if you hired a personal tutor in your home. Every probability video lesson is taught by fully worked example problems that help you not only do well in class - but truly understand the material. If you need probability help or a probability tutor that will make learning probability easy and painless, the Probability and Statistics Tutor will provide the tools you need to succeed.

The LUC Math & Stats Club, in partnership with the Department of Mathematics & Statistics and the LUC Tutoring Center, offers free tutoring to students in any 100 or 200 level math or stats course. Below is the schedule for the current semester.

At the Math Tutoring Centers on the Tempe campus, we offer free, in-person tutoring on a walk-in basis for mathematics, statistics and some math education courses. Our tutors are undergraduate and graduate students who have completed professional certified tutor training and excel in the courses they tutor.

Detailed Description

Statistics is one of the most important areas of Math to understand. It has applications in science, engineering, business, economics, policical science, and more. In this 6 Hour Course, Jason Gibson teaches the fundamental concepts needed to truly Master Statistics with step-by-step video tutorials.

The lessons begin with fundamental definitions of statistics such as populations, samples, and frequency distributions. Next, the student will learn how to represent data in charts and histograms. Then we'll cover important topics on how to represent data using the mean, median, mode, and standard deviation.

Finally, the student will learn how to interpret the standard deviation of data for bell-shaped distributions and represent data as quartiles and box/whisker plots.

The Appointment Request Form for online math tutoring is available on our Canvas page. Same-day appointments require at least 1-hour notice and are subject to availability. Please refer to the Online Tutoring Schedule by Class below.

The Math Lab is here to offer help at any point during your math course. You may drop in during our tutoring hours, and you will be assisted on a first-come, first-served basis. If you prefer to know that a tutor will be available for you at a designated time, or if you have questions about a particular course, we recommend that you set up an appointment. We recommend setting appointments for busier times, such as midterms and finals. Remember, the earlier you contact the Math Lab and the more time you spend getting help from the Math Lab, the better your chances will be for success in your math class.

If you need help in ANY math course, UIW subscribes to an online service called Brainfuse. Brainfuse is an online tutoring service available to all UIW students, 24/7. Brainfuse offers both live and asynchronous assistance. You can add Brainfuse Online Tutoring to your Cardinal Apps and access it there. If you have problems signing onto Brainfuse, contact the UIW IT help desk at (210) 829-2721, submit a ticket or help...@uiwtx.edu.

The Mathematics and Statistics Department has two free tutoring facilities on campus available for Washburn students enrolled in mathematics courses numbered MA 151 and below. No appointment is needed. There is no cost associated with tutoring at Washburn.

The Mathematics Tutoring Center in Morgan 252 is staffed by peer tutors who are typically math or science majors. The Center specializes in tutoring students in MA 108, MA 116, MA 117, MA 123, MA 140, MA 141 and MA 151. Students in MA 090, MA 095 and MA 112 are encouraged to seek assistance at the Math Learning Lab in Mabee Library if possible.

Our tutoring facilities are an extra resource to assist you in learning mathematics. They are here to supplement, not replace, the information learned in class and from individual instruction with the professor.

Bring your calculator and manual: Some mathematics courses require a graphing calculator. There are many different types of graphing calculators and your tutor may not be familiar with your calculator model. Tutors cannot be expected to know where to locate specific function keys on every type of calculator.

The Math Learning Lab (Mabee 304) has 30 computer stations available for you to work on math assignments. At times there are classes in the Lab, but there are always at least 10 open computers available. The Lab is staffed by two full-time Mathematics faculty members and peer tutors.

The Math Tutoring Center (Morgan 252) does not have computer stations. You can work on traditional paper/pencil assignments or bring your own device. The Center is staffed by peer tutors and is conveniently located across the hall from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The Center also serves as a study lounge for math majors.

The College Core Tutor Program focuses on scientific and quantitative subjects. Tutors in the program assist students in chemistry, economics, mathematics, biology, statistics and physics introductory classes.

Financial Support: The Mathematics and Statistics Department has approximately 8 graduate assistant and 8 teaching assistant positions per year. Graduate Assistants tutor in our mathematics laboratory, and Teaching Assistants have full responsibilities for one or two mathematics or statistics classes each semester. Teaching/tutoring positions are also available in the Learning Skills Program on campus.

The Math Lab is a tutoring center designed to assist students enrolled in lower division mathematics and statistics courses. Students may use this facility on a drop-in basis. Tutors, who provide assistance with course-related problems encountered in homework assignments and in preparation for examinations, are available at no cost. Tutors are either Graduate Assistants, approved by the Graduate Studies office, or Instructional Student Assistants. They are mathematics or statistics majors or others with a very good background in mathematics. Tutors must have taken a calculus series and differential equations, preferably some upper division math classes, and at least one beginning statistics course. The Math Lab is conveniently located in Brighton Hall, room 118.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics Tutoring Room is a drop-in center where any student can get help with any mathematics or statistics course. It is located in CDS 261 and is typically staffed with graduate students during regular business hours. An updated and precise schedule will be posted here at the start of each semester. Different tutors have different backgrounds and areas of expertise, so we recommend that students consult the tutoring room schedule to find a time when a tutor with an appropriate background (eg mathematics or statistics, particularly if help is being sought for an upper level course) will be available.
