Slack facilitates real-time data sharing and updates directly within channels through its integrations. For instance, if integrated with a project management tool, updates on tasks and projects can automatically populate in a designated Slack channel.
Discovering and adding these integrations to Slack is straightforward, thanks to the Slack App Directory. This directory categorizes apps and bots and helps users find the right tools for specific needs. Installation is typically a few clicks away, and Slack guides you on configuring and using these integrations effectively.
These integrations allow for a sterling workflow where information and resources from different platforms can be accessed and managed directly within Trello. For example, attaching documents from Google Drive to Trello cards or syncing Trello tasks with Salesforce records enhances the efficiency and coherence of project management efforts.
Slack provides direct messaging for private conversations beyond group channels. This feature is helpful for one-on-one discussions, which allows team members to communicate privately without cluttering the main channels.
The Trello App works no differently. Using the Slash Command /trello, you can create new cards straight from Slack. This add-on also lets you attach conversations from Slack to Trello cards, subscribe to updates on a card, update due dates, and join cards and boards.
Once you have an API key, you will use it to ask a Trello user to grant access to your application. To do so, you should direct a user to the authorize URL and pass along the query parameters needed as documented below. The authorize prompt can be opened in a number of different ways and with a number of different options.
When your application is authenticating a user, you may provide a return_url that Trello will redirect to after the user gives consent for your application. By default an application key can redirect to any domain, but we strongly recommend that you specify the origins that your application will redirect to when completing authorization.
For example, if we were GitHub building a GitHub integration for Trello, and we know we will only ever redirect back to after the user grants access in the auth flow, or perhaps also :3000 for local development, we could add both of those as allowed origins for our application, and no one will be able to use our API key to authenticate users and pass back the token to any other URLs, like
I noticed a bunch of folks on the Atlassian Community forum wanting the ability to open/preview their Word, and Excel card attachments directly in Trello instead of downloading them to their computers.
By clicking on each dot, you can see more information on the task like the label of the task, a direct link to its Trello card as well as the amount of time that the task has spent in each process state.
You can link Trello up to pretty much everything. Hook it to Slack to get automatic reminders of when your tasks are coming due, or to Google Drive to attach documents directly to cards and see real-time previews.
Each list has a unique email address, so you can forward stuff directly to your to do list, or use a Gmail or Outlook plug-in that gives you a Trello button right in your inbox. If you have the app, you can share voicemails, photos or emails direct to Trello with the standard share function on iOS and Android.
You can drag and drop all kinds of files on to cards. In OS X, you can attach a screenshot directly to a Trello card by hitting command-shift-4 to take the grab, and then hovering over the card and pressing command-V.
PowerUps like Amazing Fields can not extend the mobile clients on iOS and Android directly. This is because the applications do not have an extension mechanism like the browser-based application. Because of this there is no direct usage of Amazing Fields on the mobile application. There are 2 ways to work around this though.
One way to use powerups on your mobile device is to continue to use the browser based application. So for example simply open trello.com on a tablet or mobile phone. Some users find this method works for them and does not require anything more advanced.
Burndown for Trello is plugin that goes hand-in-hand with Scrum for Trello by making use of the aggregated estimates and spends to generate burndown charts. The free version is limited to creating charts outside of Trello, and in order to gain direct access to burndown charts from Trello you would need to get the paid version.
Gmail to Trello is nice to have if you often get emails with action points that could be translated into tasks. In email-viewing mode a Trello button appears at the top of the email. Clicking it opens a window and lets you export the email directly to a Trello card. You can edit the title and content of the email and select to which Trello board the email should be sent. This add-on currently supports exporting only incoming emails and not including attachments.
