to Den 3 Pack 389
Dear Den 3 Webelos Parents,

This is an important update, so please read on.

Last weekend, Pack 595 invited our entire den to join their pack.
Pack 595 is a Cub Scout Pack chartered by St. Bernadette's Catholic
Church at the corner of El Dorado and El Camino Reale (15500 El Camino
Real, Houston, TX 77062). The pack has about 40 boys in it and Boy
Scout Troop 595 (boys of age 11-17) has about 60 boys in it. The pack
has been in existence for 25 years and its leaders struck me as being
warm hearted and having lots of experience in running a pack. I just
got back from one of their Pack Leader Meetings and I was very
impressed with the group of people running things. In hopes of our
boys getting the most of their remaining months of Cub Scouts I plan
on joining their pack. It is my sincere hope that all of you will
join Pack 595 with me so that we can keep the den intact. Please let
me know how you feel about this.

Assuming that our den stays at least as large as it is, we'll normally
do our den meetings at the Vande Heis house. Monthly pack meetings
will usually be at St. Bernadette's Church. Our schedule will change
so I updated the Tiger Shark Tribune that I sent out earlier; you'll
see it immediately below this paragraph. Most importantly, our next
meeting will be along with two other Webelos dens, this Saturday
evening, 11 October, at a time to be announced. The location will be
at GH Whitcomb Elementary School, 900 Reseda Dr, Houston, TX 77062.
The focus of the meeting will be to practice for the Pushmobile races
and to meet the other Webelos in Pack 595. So, here is the rewritten
version of our last Tiger Shark Tribune:

Sheppards, please complete the following Webelos badge requirement
before our next den meeting: "Have an adult member of the family read
the Webelos Scout Parent
Guide and sign here (the "approved by" line following this
requirement on page 49 of the Webelos Handbook)"

We have a pack meeting on October 15th, starting at 6:15 PM, which is
combined with a Rally to get new boys to join Scouting so it will be
longer than normal and expected to finish by 8:15PM. The location is
at St. Bernadette's Church. Please bring school supplies or canned
food that you'd like to donate to charity. (Pack 595 collects items
for charity at every pack meeting they have.) Also, please bring old
newspapers and masking tape for a newspaper game that we'll play. The
entire family is invited and please come, as we have lots of
recognition items to pass out to the boys in our den.

On October 25th, we'll compete in the Bayshore District's Pushmobile
Races. The pushmobile will start with check in and car inspection at
8:00 AM and is located at San Jacinto College - Spencer Hwy at Luella
front parking lot. There is a cost of $5.00 per scout. For more
information, see the hard copy of the pushmobile flyer or the link to
it from the Bayshore District's Calendar,http://www.boyscouters.org/
bayshore/calendar/. If you'd like, we can car pool by meeting at the
Vande Heis' house at 7:25 that morning.

The Webelos den will work on the Forester and Fitness activity badges
at the den meeting on November 3rd. If family members have any
experience with tree growth or health and fitness, we would appreciate
your sharing your knowledge at the next meeting.

Upcoming Dates:

October 11th, time TBD, Den Meeting (Pushmobile Practice) at GH
Whitcomb Elementary.

October 15th, 6:15PM - 8:15PM, Pack Meeting at St. Bernadette's
Catholic Church

Jacinto College
