Why, since I'm working with Windows and creating demos for use on Windows
machines, am I forced to have Quicktime installed so I can use MP3 files?

Windows handles MP3 files just fine. I'm curious about this. I am loathe to
force an install on someone just to view my company's propaganda, er, demo.
Granted, I have a lot of room on the CD, but MP3s take up a lot less space
than their corresponding WAV files.

Any way of using Window's MP3 support instead of Quicktime?

Thanks!

Dave,

If you are working with DemoShield 6.7 or later you can use the Streaming
Media Object and stream the audio files from your CD. To do this, import
the sound files by reference into the sound tab of the Resource Manager.
Next, create a Streaming Media Object. Open the Properties and navigate to
the Object Styles tab. Use the following path to your audio file:
<path>filename.mp3<path>

I hope this helps.

I'm guessing that the original question is still unanswered. If you put an
MP3 file into your demo (I'm guessing as I've never done it) you are
required to have QT installed on any machine that you want to play it on, as
opposed to having the built-in Windows codec handle it as it does with .wav
files.

Dave,

Yes, that is correct. If you have either an MP3 or a MOV resource file in
your demo and are using either a Play Sound or Play Video action to use
these resources, the end user must have Quick Time installed on their
system.

However, if you choose to stream the audio or video resource, you can select
to stream either through Windows Media Player or Real Player.

I hope this helps.
