Hi Kelly,
would be helpful to know which versions of CGP, cgpav and clamav are you
have - anyway, there was a performance problem with clamav 0.82, so if you
have this version installed it might help to upgrade to clamav 0.83. I had
sometimes problems with virus scanning and clamav/cgpav , so I have inserted
a condition in the scanning rule to scan only mails up to a certain size.

Hi Kelly,

I use clamav 0.83, too - my CGP version is 4.2.8

I have simply added to the rule which calls cgpav this condition:

Message Size less than 5000K

Assuming that infected mails are not bigger then that size - till now no
virus made it through.

In addition to that I have set the Helper Timeout for cgpav to 5 minutes and
a 5 seconds auto restart (this against the recommendations of Farit, the
author of cgpav, but it works fine for me - cgpav times out sometimes, but
restarts then again and starts normal processing - no zombies are left with
this). The av_timeout value in cgpav.conf is set to 270 seconds - so less
than the 5 minute timeout in the helper.
