Is there still a problem with helpers on Windows servers?

I have upgraded to 6.0.8 (64bit) on Windows 2012. My CGPSA helper has
been working fine for years. Now there is a problem in running the
helper from CGP. If I reboot the server, everything works fine. When the
helper restarts itself, the interface or helper module appears to freeze
and I cannot kill the helper from CGP's webadmin or restart it unless I
restart the server.

Any ideas?

I can't speak for Windows Server 2012 as I haven't made that leap yet. On Server 2008R2 (64-bit) with CGPro 6.0.8 32-bit, helpers do not seem to auto-restart, but I've never had the webadmin interface freeze on me, and restarting the helpers from webadmin works here. Generally, when a helper hangs or crashes, I kill all the helpers in Process Explorer or using pskill and manually restart them from webadmin.

This bug has made me take time to fix as many of the crashing issues as I can so the server doesn't halt sending email. The only one I have left is related to the LDAP authentication module which periodically doesn't get a response from Windows LDAP and hangs. I suppose I should take time to make it asynchronous, time out the connection and reset it in the helper, but it only happens once every week or two, so it's more work than it's worth... Obviously, since CGPro won't restart the helpers, nothing tries to "auto-restart" itself any more because it can't.

CGPSA was set to restart every 512 requests to compensate for an old memory bug in SpamAssassin. It was the fact the helper was restarting which "freaked the hell" out of CGP :-) Disabling the restarting within CGPSA seems to have fixed the problem. So, the issue is now CGPSA cannot restart itself and CGP still can't auto restart it's helpers so it means manually monitoring the server for issues. I'm contemplating fropping back to CGP5 as I cannot see any benefits from the upgrade. The helper issue certainly is a big headache. So the cons outway the pros when it comes to upgrading from CGP5 to CGP6.

From a quick look in Task Manager, it appears as though the memory bug with SpamAssassin/Perl on Windows may not be fixed. It is not problematic yet but it now means I may have to regularly reboot the server until this helper problem is fixed.
